Ohhh Genevieve smdh. It means at least ONE one of my parents or grandparent actually lived in or was born in the continent of Africa. You're killing me here haha girl, you're gah d_mn killing me here. Tell those fellow black Americans refer to themselves as just that, black not African American unless they have a parent or grandparent who was born (whether they are white African or black African) in the continent. Well maybe we both should quickly go into the D.R. forum and ask these Dominicans why do they deny being black. Because maybe we are both wrong on why some black hispanics state they are not black.
so wait, who was from louisiana in your family? Colonial/French louisiana roots, not AA louisianan. Are you creole? I thought you said you were LA creole...

sir, if stating facts about the racist ideologies of america as well as the historic makeup of people of african descent in latin america "pesters" you, then you must have some serious problem with black people.
Oh, and don't think that white ppl on this forum are immune to that sht, i've seen racist insults thrown at them too on a daily basis. It doesn't make it okay. The difference is in this thread i'm not just flinging racist insults at latinos by calling them "moreno", if you even want to see that as an "insult/pestering". im stating facts of american history that latinos in general are NOT familiar with due to the construct of latino society being a sort of "reverse one droppist", wherein spanish blood makes you anything but negro. To be black/"negro" in latin america you have do be damn dark, or look like a darkskinned AA. That's why i half-ass pay attention to what the brazilian says because they have like 50 different races in their society, with only the blackest of black being "black".
That's not what you are cunningly doing.

Creole and Scottish. Nonetheless I am a woman of color. If others want to refer to me as just black or AA, I am also fine with that. As long as they get at least ONE of the ethnicities correct, then I'm fine.

I am Louisiana Creole. As much as you probably don't want to admit, black Americans derived here, most if not all, in the Americas after their ancestors were enslaved (their West African ancestors, not Egypt or North African and dorn sure didn't derive from no Spain). Louisiana Creoles with African ancestry have West African ancestry in them. Of course some also have Spanish ancestry but VERY few as Louisiana was sold to France by Spain, then France to America to sum it up. Now....the Scottish part comes in from my father. Since Scottish has nothing to do with a Creole admixture, I am Creole AND Scottish or to suit your liking, I am African American, Native American, French, and Scottish. I was born and raised in Louisiana. My PARENT was born and raised in Louisiana.

Also Genevieve, there are Creoles IN the continent of Africa might I add. Creoles aren't just in Louisiana, Puerto Rico, or the west period. They have them in France as well and a very small group in Belize (Central America). As for Africa, they have them in places such as Senegal, Mauritania, etc. Hence where the Creole dish gumbo derived from. Gumbo is some African dialect for soup or stew, West African language. Hence the Creole (French) language being a WEST African dialect of the French language. So yes, I am of mixed heritage as far as Creole goes.

okay, so let me get this straight...you're half white scottish, half African american (mother) who's also half african and half LA creole? Am i getting this right?

And yes, i know about the african creoles, I actually lived with a Crio from Sierra Leone in college. Fascinating culture. They are supposed to be close to AAs, as their ancestors were brought to america, then shipped back to sierra leone and liberia.
