I have met a number of Igbo's and they seem to be the only West African tribe that look exactly like African-Americans & Caribbeans. Whether light or dark.
Also i've noticed that there is an equal number of light and brown skinned Igbo's with jet black being in the minority (I would say most Igbo's are yellowish - brown on average).
Light eyes is also not uncommon.
Is there something the Igbo's haven't mentioned or are they just a really diverse bunch?
A good example of some Igbo's (light, brown and dark skinned)
* Oguchi Onyewu
* Tuvi James
* Nnamdi Asomugha
* Adaeze Igwe
* Monalisa Chinda
* Osi Umenyiora

there have been some dna tests done on igbos.an example is one done by geneticist sarah tishkoff what she found is that igbo cluster with other west africans and not with non-africans.african americans on the other hand are between west africans and whites but on a line so we vary as to how white or black we are. 1 study i read online broke down the dna of 365 africanamericans into african and european according to genetic distance the difference between igbo dna and african parts of african american dna was 0.074% and this was the shortest distance for any african group

Majority of I(g)bos are dark, darker than average Usonian BP. ;-D & light-skinned 9jas are scattered in various percentages throughout 9ja & found in almost all ethnicities. ;-) As a matter of fact, most of I(g)bos in BRA fall in >>>ni- insert gg -er<<< group, & not 'brownies' like most of CVeans. ;-P

it seems the dominant tribe representing aa is not igbo but yoruba. i don't think they tested igbo admixture, but yoruba came up at around 45%, while mandinka and bantu were about 14% each. the rest would likely be hausa, igbo, and ashanti, but those weren't included in the study for some reason. but at 45% yoruba would have to be the dominant admixture.

As bogus as it gets from historical aspects. ;-D In that case Afro-BRA & Afro-Cubans would be almost of 100% Yoruban descent. ;-) That must be some Usonian 'G8s' study again, bro. ;^D

haha, you know everytime you have a new study you get different numbers. in this one aa are also about 14% mandinka. they didn't have numbers for igbo, hausa or the other tribes.
i'd like to see these numbers broken down for the islands.

Well, genetically, Afro-BRA & Euro-BRA are much closer than Afro-BRA & Usonian Blacks/AAs, fact. ;-) There's actually a study where all Afro-diasporans are compared & from that alone it came out Usonian Blacks clearly origin8d in W.Africa, w/ 9ja bein' the southmost border -- Xceptions do Xist mostly due to Usonian racist history, of course. ;-D The prob is, most of W.Africa, or Africa in general, is not really sampled, so DNA comparisons are as bogus as water on the Sun. ;-P As for the Caribbeans, it's hard to say. But it could be anythin' between Cuba & Argentina case. ;^D

Two more names:

Bianca Onoh-Ojukwu
Chinezi Chijioke

A Nigerian dude I know insists that they're pure Igbo. Both look somewhat mixed to me, though. Any thoughts?

Almost every Bantu ethnic group in Cameroon traces their origin to the Tikar, who once inhabited Northern Cameroon and NE Nigeria, and was pushed Northwest due to the Fulani. I also agree with your statements in regards to the Igbo, genetically they cluster closer with proto-Bantu's than any other West African group. Igbos are mixture of West African groups and Bantu stock. The ones who live closer to Bantuids look more like them while those who live closer to West African groups like Edo look more like them. Their language isn't Bantu though, but has some Bantu component/words in it. Example Chinezi Chijioke, sounds lika a Bantu name surname. The "Chi" is found in all Bantu languages from Cameroon to Cape Town.

Igboland was a slave trading center. Soma Arabs and europe procreated with some local. There is no way bianca Onoh-Ojukwu is a full blooded West African. People like that bianca Onoh-Ojukwu are found all over Africa but when you dig into their passed, some non-African is in the wood pile. Adenike Ogunlesi lives in Nigeria and is half white and married to a Nigerian. Her kids look like AA. Are they pure Africans? NO! Many African men will marry mixed race woman over their own. African is slowly changing. If you look at pics of Africans 200 years ago, they do not look like the people you see today.

Stop talking nonsense.

Where is your evidence?

All admixture studies I have seen placed Igbos as 100% African.

Pls do not say what you don't know. Bianca Ojukwu is a full blooded igbo. I'm igbo too and iam much fairer than Bianca and my sister is a bit darker than me with very light brown eyes but I consider her to be prettier cos she has more dainty and soft features. There are millions of pple that are fairer than Bianca and finer too, if you watch Nigerian movies u will notice that. Igbos have differents shade but are majorly between fair, light brown and brown and some have brown and hazel eyes. My two best friends can pass for tanned white girls. There are many beautiful girls in naija but a high majority are igbos. Igbos dominate beauty contests in nigeria and also the nollywood film industry. Ask any nigerian and they will tell u that there is no mixture. Its not that you don't have dark igbos but they are few unlike yorubas and hausas that are majorly dark. Most Igbo girls are also tall, especially the ones from Anambra. I have soo many very very fair pple in my family and we are full igbos, no mixture. Also, there are other tibes in naija besides igbo, hausa and yoruba, its just that they are the three biggest tribes. Because of inter marriages between igbos and other tribes, you will now see very fair yorubas and hausa. Meanwhile fulanis are fair and beautiful too.

Now that I have said that, being fair does not guarantee prettiness as there are many beautiful yoruba and hausa pple around too, far more beautiful than some igbos. Nigeria we don't discriminate between fair and dark like some other countries and intermarriages are very common. U don't see men or women dating or marrying someone because they are fair. My dad is fair and my mum is dark and they are both igbos, its just that my mum is not as dark as yoruba person or hausa. Pls ask questions if you don't know, don't just make assumptions or generalizations.

Please leave them to keep talking trash. I am igbo and they cannot know about my own tribe more than me. I'm very fair too.

Their light probably because of climate. Some igbos actually think they have jewish mixture in them, but they dont. I believe their is a latent albino gene with them as well. Some slave traders did have a few wives in africa. I heard of this lady, who is a decendant of a portuguese slave trader, he had several wives, and homes in west africa, but that is a small situation. I saw this on a documenatary. AA's are lighter, or mainly come out lighter, due to admixture, and our climate is not as harsh with the sun. Mixture produces all types of traits in black american people, some that we dont even know. I know that AA's are considered genetically distinct from africans, but were still black.
