Discussing this won't accomplish too much. Maybe trying to pressure the UN to help end the smuggling could possibly be a start. However, I keep hearing that a lot them don't like AA's, so any emotional and financial support would most likely be rejected. I would probably just let them handle there own situation and not worry too much about it.

we dont hate black ppl at all!How would we hate our own ppl.some ppl went through some bad time with AA that is why they dont like em and luck of education,AND THE MEDIA

Roland I disagree. African Americans have been the vanguard for African liberation, equity and justice. Discussing it on an AA forum is not only appropriate--it's mandatory. AA have fought wars in Ethiopia, the Congo and Sudan for Africans and were also a integral part in helping to put an end to apartheid. I think the moment we humans stop helping other humans in need simply because they look, think, and speak differently is the day we become as animals. It troubles me to see people of color bickering over color and not combating the real issues: Corruption, apathy, rape, genocide, unfair trade agreements, etc. Who cares about who is not dating whom when a four year old girl from Sudan or Somalia is raped just because she is black. Why are we talking about dumb things that divide us when we can work together for a greater cause? Going through the UN has never been the solution to any crisis in the world. If Africans do not treat other Africans with respect then neither will anyone else.

Why not talk about it here? Is it beyond the scope of black interests for an AA to discuss African issues other than BET, light skin, and bumping N' grinding with other races? After all this is an AFRICAN american forum. Are you suggesting that because I am AA that AAs must only discuss the stereotypical issues like gold chains, R&B singers,and Heneysee? Dispite what some claim, I've been to HOA and what I see disturbs me as a human being and more so as a black one. This issue is much more central to the state of Blacks than the junk you see on BET.

Rah you make a valid point: why they try to play it down. Maybe because they think it was brought up in poor taste and they don't want to talk about it because they think I am insensitive. I could care less what they think of me as long as they do discuss the issue amongst themselves and get other AAs involved. Maybe it's because the issue is too painful to discuss for them--I don't know. It's something they have to answer. Rah I want you to go Bole Michael, in Addis Ababa and speak with the Ogaden somalis there; I want you to go to Dokki not too far from Zamalek in Cairo and speak with those people who fled somali and you will discover as I did that these are the real Somalis and Eritreans. They are the ones going through the struggle as we speak. They live it! Don't become discouraged by what you see here. There is much more common ground and respect between peoples of color than what is represented here. Go see for yourself. A ticket to Cairo is only 1,000 US dollars and the Somalis there are everywhere. At meet many of them at night clubs and they were candid, open, and passionate for all the right reasons. The people here enjoy the freedoms we enjoy and would like to forget about Africa and bury the continent under false pretense. I think they are enraged when people they think very little of, e.g., AAs bring these issues to the front because they do think they are superior and beyond reproach. I don't know, what I do know is that what is happening in AFrica is by far more significant than the issues we AAs and Africans alike tend to talk about. I get tired of talking about hoopties, sports, and big booties when atrocities are being levied against people of color; simply because of their color.
