People in other countries are taught to own their own business. Here you're taught to go to school to work in whatever "feild" you decide to work in.Working for someone else.

As many have already stated, it depends on what the intended end use or purpose of your college degree is. If your intent is to simply work a job for forty years enriching the private or public shareholders of the company that employs you, then in most cases, a degree is like the cover charge or the price of admission to the party.

Though I did get my degree, I made little utility of it after college and quick frankly, I barely remembered a third of the curriculum that had been taught. So for me, the academic part was a waste of time, but the four year incubation period before I was tossed out into the cold REAL world was good.

I'm retrospect, the fact that I was distracted by playing ball and chasing the females saved me from the linear, programmed, structured thinking that so many are handicapped by. The real world was a much better instructor without all the debt.

I went to Aeronautics School. Graduated with a Airframe,Powerplant,Nondestruc tive Testing and Associate Degree.
The Air Force paid for my Metallurgical Engineering degree while at NASA.
I make just over $100k/yr. Because of the degree I make an additional $40k/year.
Still constantly being sent to school even now. Just spent two weeks at Boeing
Education is never ending. At least someone else is paying now.

I have 7 weeks vacation, full dental, medical, vision, can fly anywhere in the world free for the rest of my life with 50-90% discount on cruise ships and hotels.
Able to retire early and live comfortably later. Homes paid off. And no mortgage or consumer debt. Able to max my 401k and Roth ....save and invest every year.
With two pensions alone I will get over $6k/month at early retirement.
The degree gave me the skills and ability to buy a home and create a business in Switzerland. So there's addition income their which allowed me to buy a place later in Rome. Which lead to a place in Florida.
Can also take care of my mom better than she ever imagined.

I learned a technical skill and pursued higher learning within my area of interest.
Didn't have any baggage like relationship distractions, bastard kids, etc, to get in my way. I was able to relocate anywhere in the world if I had to.

All of my sisters have degrees in the medical field.
My niece has an engineering degree and works in London and Dubai.
My girl graduate later this year from Cambridge and already hired by a large company.

Many out there wasted their time with useless courses. Didn't think things through.
Didn't research global demand or thought about the future.

Also a degree doesn't necessarily denote intelligence, but rather a precocious ability to manage time and structure. Some people's neuro-pathways are not yet fully developed and are still under construction with their best learning years ahead of them post college when their intellect matures.

I had a childhood friend whom everyone regarded as a lttle "touched" as the old ladies down south would say, who struggled all the way through each level of school, often spending time in remedial classes etc..

But suddenly, one day , several years after high school everything became clear to him and now that brother owns a real estate portfolio worth around 10 million. He likes to joke that the only time he spent on a college campus was to watch a game.

I make sure that I always share his story with the young heads who have been programmed to believe that a college degree is the singular pathway to success.

College Education: The Largest Scam in U.S. History

College education is big business, and with easy Federal loans, prices for everything from tuition to text books is going through the roof. Once degreed, the majority of college grads are ill-equipped to handle the current marketplace. Many of those who entered college just five years ago simply can’t find work in a 21st century economy that’s imploding on all sides. What college grads are left with are massive loans that can’t be repaid and a room in mom and dad’s basement.

Yeah, those student loans are getting to the point of making a person a wage/credit slave once they graduate- and so many occupation fields are now flooded. College tuition is going through the roof- partially because an increasing number are eligible for low income government grants and the sky's the limit on what government will pay on tuition for these students. This makes it SO hard for students not eligible for those grants as tuition skyrockets.

But, would it land you a 6-figure job with Citibank? Would it get you to be a head surgeon at NYU medical? Can you be a principle?
