Why biracial people are called black?

I am visibly black but have native american and white in me. Becaus I have the "black features" I cant identify as anything but black. I cannot embrace Native American culture and say Im indian or Im part this because Im so dark. Sometimes I say Im Indian or anything else to escape from being black but I think it is funny that white folk can embrace every part of their ancestry and even act black but when blacks do it we are wrong. Society paints being black or being white a certain way. I think we should all embrace the many cultures in our heritage but when identifying as a certain race group think about how this country will think and act towards you. Thats when it falls down to white or black

I think you should be what you want to be, you
are bi-racial if you have two parents of different races, no stupid rule can change that. most black people are mixed with at least 10% european or more, but they are still black, however with a mixed race person it is different, they have att least 50% or more of other race admixture, the one-drop rule is wrong it was a way of perpetually putting blacks underneath the white man, and preserving the purity of the white blood. It is stupid we are all human beings, there is genetic evidence that the pigmentation of the white skin came from the black skin (no white people are not from albinos, albinism is complete loss of pigmentation from the eyes and the skin). The only thing that makes a white person white is the melanin count is lower and lower down the epidermal layer, skin is only 1/16th of an inch however we are all making a big deal about it. Let's face the truth a person who has a white parent and black parent is bi-racial, despite their shade, and yes you can get mixed people who look like a light skinned regular black person, how do i know this? i am one, i also live in the uk, where there is no such thing as the one-drop rule, so mixed race other is a recognized racial cateogory on the uk national census. But bein bi-racial dont mean you have to exclude yourself and be liberated from the black race, that is just as wrong, relate to both sides, be who you are, |

The reason why Bi racials are called black in the US is because Bi racials are considered black by white American society, you have in the US the one drop law.
|
|
There is presently no one drop law in the U.S. The law referred to as the one drop law came into place in the 1940s,anyone with any known black ancestry was deemed black by law. That law is now obsolete in LAW. In 1940 1950,1960,1970,if you reported on the census form or on a job application, checked both the white, and the black boxes for race, they would simple cross out the white box,and list you as a black person since you were mixed with black, and the"one drop law" was the law. Now in 2008 if you are mixed black/white,and check both boxes they cannot deny you the right to claim whatever you are mixed with, and dictate to you that you are black, because of being mixed with black, and they instead must report you as a multiracial person.I guess if the one drop law does not still exist in law,it does in everyday social living on the street, cause when people see a person who may very well show physical features of being mixed with White,Indian, Asian,or what- ever, but if that person also displays physical looks that tell of having black blood, many people will still follow the one drop law,and consider that person black. Old habits are hard to break, because the one drop policy has been in the U.S. since slavery times. |

Cause that's what we have to fill out on the government issued EEO forms (there's isn't a selection for bi or multi racials).
Why does it matter what ppl are called? |

Sorry for the late respond taino. Honestly I dont really know why it's this way. Maybe it's because we resemble all people. I dont really know and yeah Saba is Beautiful and she is singing in Somali with her very strong Italian accent. |

1 I fill in "American" in the Other category. Maybe I am the only one that considers myself an American above a skin color. |

Why don't I believe you, cause it may not be true outside of your area! But let's pose the question to other light skinned to see if they concur... For me, I strongly disagree. Anyone else??? |
