An adorable Cheerios commercial featuring an interracial couple and their daughter generated such a strong racist backlash on YouTube that the comments section had to be closed.

Rarely watch TV and hate commercials. Only caught that commercial because of the continuous weather programming yesterday during the tornado, servere thunderstorm, and flood warnings.

Saw that commercial. Liked it. I like honeynut cheerios.Don't watch YouTube.
Moved on with my life.

Looks like another stormy afternoon/evening today.

That black guy's a proper actor, I've seen him in some good films.
Sad that he's having to do commercials to pay his way.

Since most people, in a quite high percentage, are with a person of the same race- I don't see the purpose of having a commercial focusing on a family that is "rare" as opposed to usual. I would assume that making a series of commercials highlighting various same race couples and families- Asian, Black, White, "Latino", etc. would make more sense in that more people could relate to those couples and families. Oh, well, what doesn't make sense to me could fill many libraries.

No shock there this just proves once again how insecure wm really are. Had this been a wm and bw or any other non white women nobody would have said anything.

Your racist resistance to “mixed” people is exactly the sort of attitude which made things difficult for my daughter, who is mixed. It is not RARE. Look around you.

Racists like the miscreants who raised you have created nothing but problems for other people. Your attitudes are not positive in the least bit, they are 100% sociopathic.

Okay - here's a question for you, Shorty469. Do you think the very strong African features of the husband figured into the "strong racist backlash?"

In other words, do many whites need to see an Obama-style or Lenny-Kravitz-style of racial admixture in order to feel more comfortable or less "threatened" by the black man?

I have my suspicions, but would like your opinion.

.I could think that it is positive that people are addressing such issues... but of course it is first addressed negatively, I mean the conversation starts with racist reactions.

This is 2013 so in fact it's bad, to me, it's depressing, to think that we are STILL obsessed with this crap.

And over the decades much of the reaction to the imperative for LIBERATION coming out of the movement(s) of the 1960's-70's has been in the media skewed if not merely superficial.

Inter-”racial” couple? I've seen commercials showing white men with Asian women and nobody blinked.

The USA has not held its racial conversation well. There's been a lot of patronizing, condescending, reactionary racism, fear, false guilt complexes.

On TV comedy shows (Comedy Central, BET, etc.) certain groups are off-limits (blacks, Jews, Asians), but you can mock whites, Appalachians, Irish, Mexicans all day and the audience hoots and howls.

Many black athletes and celebs have white/latina wives.

If one particular sort of pairing comes to be common enough to be accepted, then why not all, any of them? It really does amaze me that what seem to be such a simple awareness is so hard to come by.

There are still a number of racial characteristics of the media we should address. Start with the low % of black females on the cable news channels. MSNBC seem a bit better in this regard. People should be agitating to change that discrepancy, not whining about inter-ethnic couples, SMH.

A lot of bit character actors would kill for commercial spots. They pay a huge amount and require way less than a day's work.
There's about 100,000 actors that get no work period, people who get steady commercial work for big brands are actually extremely lucky.
