As a black male I am fed up with it. Will I ever meet a real, natural, confident, high self esteem, educated, articulate, black lady with real, natural hair? I cannot take it no mo.

White women in Hollywood wear fake hair all the time. They wear wigs too, so what's the difference? I guess it's ok for a white woman to wear fake hair, but when a black woman does it, they get shitted on. I wear weaves and guess what? I'm going to keep wearing them.

When you black men stop chasing after light-skinned/mixed/non-black women. Until ya'll stop doing that, we are going to wear fake hair. Case closed.

TROLL! TROLL! TROLL!!!!

DON'T FEED THE TROLL. He's started two other of these posts in the past week!!! He's obviously an imbecile. Don't fall for it. As soon as he gets a response that doesn't he have a valid argument or counter point for he starts a new thread.

The first two words you said answered the question and is the part of the reason black women wear false hair.....white women.....black women are forever trying to be like them and look like them.

But it sounds to me like this is one black man who is looking for a natural black woman, is he wrong for that? I feel he is being attacked all cause he expressed what he was looking for and the response were from people who got offended.

Of course it can. In order to dispel any further comment like this one, I will explain. If you have short hair, you wear fake hair to add length. Maybe you don't want to make the effort to grow your hair long, so you put in weave for a style that requires long hair. When Britney Spears cut off her hair, she put in a weave to add length to it. Never did I say anything concerning the ability for black women to grow their hair. I don't know where that conclusion was reached, but the OP was wondering why black women wear weave. I never said all black women wear fake hair. I don't wear it, but for those that do, the main motive for doing it, is to add length. There may be other reasons, but this I believe is the main one. Any further explanation required?

Is it just me or do people always try to find a reason to be offended?

Oh wait. So all black women that wear weave are trying to be white?

I know right. What's wrong with wanting to look good? I know women who have longer hair than I do, and they wear weaves so they can PROTECT their hair from the weather. Britney Spears, Christina Aguliera, Jessica Simpson, and all the non-black women wear fake hair all the time not only to add length, but to protect their hair and versatility. It ain't nothing wrong with that. I refuse to walk around looking like Kunta Kinte. Until this racist ass country celebrates diversity, I'm going to wear a weave!!!! I'm not trying to be whit by no means, but let's face it. Long hair does bring the natural beauty out of women of ALL races. No matter what you say, I'm going to wear a weave. Case closed.

Ha you may be right but please don't get it twisted, white women are NO different when it comes to trying to look like others.

I'm pretty sure that there are black women who do wear weaves, extensions, etc because they want their hair texture and length to be similar to a typical white woman's hair. But there are black women who wear weaves due to hair diseases, some black woman wear weaves because it's easier to deal with or more suitable for their occupation/profession, finally there are black women who wear weaves to add length to their hair. There are numerous reasons, probably more then I mentioned, but the bottom line is that weave-wearing CAN not and should not boil down to wanting to look like a white woman.
Why? Because white woman also wear weave. They do so it add "width" to their hair. White woman usually have thin dog-like hair, so a large portion of white woman add weave for volume--a trait which black women for the most part have little issue with. White woman get their hair in cornrows, micro-braids, etc--are they trying to be "black"? Some will argue YES, but I'm pretty sure a majority of white women will say NO.
Believe me when I say that they do NOT love their hair like we all think. Most white women complain that there hair is "blah" "dull" or "too straight/curly" etc. A lot of white women wish that their texture was as thick as a typical black woman's hair. A lot of white women have issues styling their hair and I've been complimented several times about how cool my hair is. When it's braided they all are interested in the process of braiding and want to get their braided as well. When my hair is natural--they often think that it feels "cool", when my hair is styled because I have thick hair--they often want to know how I was able to style it like it is. When my hair is relaxed, interestingly enough, I still get comments because even when my hair is relaxed it looks NOWHERE near a typical white woman's hair. My hair is straight, thick, and black, with plenty of volume--I am able to do numerous styles with it--and YES white women notice this and I do get compliments and comments on it.
So what I'm trying to say is that, contrary to what we believe weave-wearing is common for black AND white woman, woman wear weaves for numerous reasons, black women who wear weaves MAY not be trying to look white, we may covet white women's hair but NOT all of them do, and just as SOME of us wish to have "white" hair, they wish to have "our" hair.
