I have a neighbor who is from Ghana. He is here on a student visa. His visa is about to run out, and he has not found a company that will sponsor him. He says that there is this woman from his grad school that said that she would marry him. This way he could stay in the country. He said that he is thinking about it.

I know that this happens all of the time. Personally I think this is just another whole in the swiss cheese of the US immigration policy. I guess it would be really hard for a government to regulate love.

THIS HAPPENS ALL OVER THE WORLD, NOT JUST THE U.S. YOU NEVER HEAR ABOUT IT BECAUSE NOT TOO MANY PEOPLE ARE CLAMORING TO ENTER OTHER COUNTRIES AS MUCH AS THEY DO THE U.S.(MOST PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO GET OUT OF THEIR COUNTRY)AMERICA HAS BIGGER FISH TO FRY THAN WORRY ABOUT PEOPLE MARRYING TO STAY HERE. WE ARE A NATION OF MANY NATIONALITIES AND CULTURES. WHEN DID AMERICA BECOME THIS ELITIST, PRIVATE SOCIETY? I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH DIVERSITY. IF SOMEONE WANTS TO BECOME A CITIZEN, THEN LET THEM

I almost married several foreign men.

All of them wanted to marry me and then go live in their home countries (Europe, UK, Africa, Asia, Middle East).

But I did check into what would happen if we married and they stayed here.

Do you know I had to prove that they could support themselves and that I COULD support them if there were issues?

The paperwork, everything, all cost a pretty penny, although we were flush. I thought about all the immigrants who don't have a lot of money.

And yes, you are right. Everyone told me about all the surprise social visits and everything.

Scary.

But scarier was being in someone else's country where I have no rights and in some countries may never really get to be a citizen, like Israel or Norway.

Term I don't have a problem with people doing this, no not at all.

The only time I have problems with this is if the person they are going to marry DOESN'T KNOW this what they intend to do.

As long as they have a fully willing "BEARD", I don't care. I just don't like lies and sneaks.

The notion that people are trying to get into only the USA is false. The EU is full of illegal immigrants and people are using all manner of tricks to enter.

Don't pat yourselves on the back so much...thinking that the USA is a wonderful and utopian nation because people want to come here. As with the EU, they are moving to the rich country which is the seat of power which keeps their countries poor!!!

France still controls the economies of the former French African colonies. The UK controls Nigeria still. The USA controls most of Latin America. Get a grip on reality. The 3rd world was IMPOVERISHED by the colonialist nations.

In 1522, Mexico was far richer than Spain. In 1400, West Africa was far richer than Western Europe. In 1500, India was richer than all of Europe combined. What happened?

Wow I wonder why all those countries are poor. They must be "inferior" and "incompetent", waiting for "the white man" to teach them how to do it!

HAAA HA HA HA HA HA....if you believe that racist crap you need to take a vacation to Honduras or Haiti and live in a poor neighborhood for 2 months.

The other thing is that this can backfire in another way.

Many people have heard the stories of thinking they were marrying someone for love and they were really marrying someone who wanted citizenship or temp citizenship status....

But there are horror stories the other way too:

I dated a Chinese guy who married a Black woman for citizenship, temporarily. She knew it and participated.

He gave her $5k upfront and he kept going to school.

Well, this woman was a real skank, the type of Black woman I despise at times.

She already had a kid and instead of just using and enjoying the 5000 dollars he paid her, she got pregnant by another man and demanded another 5 grand.

She got pregnant on purpose!

When he wouldn't pay, she said she would go to the courts.

She did and they said he had to take care of the kid EVEN THOUGH IT WASN'T HIS because they had been together for a certain period of time.

He was amazed at how she treated her child and future child and how she was trying to scam him and this is how we met.

He was actually nice about it. He said he didn't want it to be a "racial" thing.

He kept her kids and was actually a good dad to them.

I met this skank and when he got his degree they divorced.

He actually kept sending child support, not just for legal reasons but because he felt sorry for the kids.

I can tell you a few other stories too....

It's like that in many countries.

I have a Thai friend who lost her kid to a Japanese man, in their courts.

I have a friend who is Black like me who lost her son to a Nigerian man, in their courts.

I have another Black friend who lost her daughter to a German man but that was more even-handed. It was just that he had more money than she did.

if its for love that great, if its fraud and its found out, the penalty can be very stiff. homeland security is clamping down hard.

i heard of a case where this couple had an arranged marriage for profit and thought they got away with it. came to find out the security guard at the address they gave was an ins officer. they staked the home out for 6months and when it was apparent that the couple was not in the marriage for love..the officer came to the door, arrested the woman and deported the man.

no joke.

It is crazy.

I shudder to think if they did that to me and my current husband (who is American, like me).

I know him backwards and forwards and vice versa, but honestly, sometimes stuff slips.

He really doesn't have a favorite color (nobody believes that, but when you get to know my husband you learn it is the truth) and no immigration person would believe that.

As for pudding, well, he pretty much will eat what is put before him, any kind.

He really doesn't like sweets much and when he does want them, he is mostly a Sweet Potato Pie and Egg Pie man. Egg Custard Pie is his favorite.

My husband is a bit off center in some ways and it would be hard if people asked what and when all the time.

And Lord, he can only work out that I look "pretty" or "not as pretty".

He is not a details person about like, eye shadow or lip gloss or something.

If his life depended on knowing my favorite shade of lipstick he would be dead, seriously. LOL

My husband is from Mexico and I thought he loved me wenow been marryied for 2 and a half years. He just left me two months ago because I didn't start his papers to stay in the usa. I told him lets go to counseling but he won't so now I know he only wanted his paper but I still love him with all my heart. I just sit here waiting for him to change his mind but I know he won't. If I know who to call to deport him I would but because he has no right to lie to me and hurt me like this
