Giving charity to people, does it make them dependent on it?
Is charity a good thing or a curse in disguise?
Lets discuss it Topix family :)

Charity is taught in all of the Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam, etc.,) Sister.

Yes it does and it is almost like a spoiled child who got so used to being giving everything it can make her to lazy to work.

Recently, I had a discussion with someone who gave me an example of Africa.(S)he claimed that Africa has always depended on aid, charity, donations, etc which has made it less influential at all levels be it domestic (as in continental) and global. The person mentioned that, first of all, investors don't want anything to do with a country/place/continent that relies on donations. Secondly, providing aid or donations to Africa gives international institutions or organizations the power to prescribe terms and set the agenda for Africa forcing it into a vicious cycle of dependency.

I don't know the example answers your question, but what I have recounted above, appears to me as one way to respond to your inquiry.

Excellent point.
I wouldn't want to invest in a person or country that relied on charity from others.

I suppose because you would be questioning her-his/its capacity to pay you back, generate revenue on your investment...

Charity is a necessary thing. Unfortunately it is almost always abused and exploited, so it is frowned upon and our system of charity has been soiled.

Any one of us could use charity now and then, just as we should be able to offer it when we can. However, when certain elements take charity and make it their status quo, a stigma becomes attached to the whole concept of charity. It becomes ruined.
