Once again, a study has found a wide gap between blacks and whites, and yet again the news is not good for African-Americans. The latest study, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, shows that an alarming 48% of African-American girls ages 14-19 have a sexually transmitted disease,

This trend has become a culturally embedded flaw within the Black American community. These girls feel that being sexually available is the accepted path to Black womanhood. In the end, when HIV takes hold of this generation, you will see a decline in the Black American population. We're cutting ourselves off at the ankles. This behavior is a by-product of the Jezebel/Sapphire persona. Without Black women, there are no Black people. It's suicide. Half of 14-19 year old black females have sexually transmitted diseases.

Considering the rate of OOW births among blacks, are these infection rates really a surprise? I don’t say that to demonize single mothers or fathers, but to point out how far too many in the black community view unprotected sex as acceptable. Even when the possibility of conceiving a child is removed from the equation, people are still left with the harsh reality of transmitting an STD (not all of which are curable) if they engage in unprotected sex. Some will say that this is a reflection of "lack of education”, but I don’t buy that for a second. The only method of birth control which can prevent the transmission of STDs is readily available in every drug and grocery store and we all have varying degrees of familiarity with it. At the end of the day, we have to teach children to value themselves enough to make their health a top priority.

Black women and girls don't value themselves anymore other than as sexual objects. As a community, this image is being reinforced in peer groups and through mass media. We're at a point where I have to say that the Black American family/community is essentially dead. If it weren't, these STD rates would not be this high.

Makes a whole lot of sense. If you kill the family unit, you kill respect and hence, you kill a culture.

Good point. Unfortunately, few in our society even CONSIDER the idea of saying 'no' to sex. Condom use aside, these children need to be made to realize that they don't HAVE to have sex.

the hoochie mama syndrome is infecting young girls. They dress like prostitutes. I passed by this teenage girl the other day and she was wearing some daisy dukes and man oh man I started looking for $20.
An it wasn't an hour later that i saw another teenage girl in some daisy dukes but this one was in the store with her mother.

Girls in America see themselves as sex objects.

*LOL* at "hoochie mama syndrome".

At some point, you have to ask yourself "where are the parents". Kids have always tried to be "grown", but parents used to tighten the reigns and demand that they acted and dressed like children. I know there are still parents who do this, but their numbers seem to be dwindling.

I agree that parents need to be more responsible. My mother was like the Matrix..she was everywhere! I couldn't get away with anything. She'd pop up at my school unannounced for no good reason. I hated it then, but that's what parents need to do.

Also the videos with black women in them are not setting a good example. The music is degrading black women & making it seem like abstinence is a thing of the past. At the very least, these girls should be using condoms. I know the messages have been getting out there, but I can't understand why they aren't listening.

Besides killing and torturing dogs michael vick was passing around STDs. vick was brought to court for giving a woman STDs and was admitted by his lawyer.
Dennis Rodman was sued by a woman for giving her herpes.

Are those statistics the latest weapon to outcast people or what? I imagine those poor little teenagers without no health problem in schools and campuses, beeing suspected by schoomates and indeed eliminated in everyone's list of dating, that's cruel. May be it's time to find how to verify the accuracy of those "studies". They don't seem as helpful and unpartial as they are supposed to be.

However I have to admit that poverty is the main reason of that problem, just like obesity and all the numerous issues rampant in the underpriviledged community of the society. It's heart breaking.

Yes u can say so because most of these sexual transmitted disease is killing mostly the black race all around the world. Think about it blacks r the minority but have the must S.T.D in the states.

The girls need counselling not by the parents because statistics will show that they have failed but by black organisations who what to see change.

This shit isn't news me to as I've always known that the high incidence of STD's in black teens has been alarming. I already know for a fact that these cases of STD are linked to hip hop music as most of the teens listen to and watch that stuff, and the more time the spend watching those videos the more likely they are to engage in sexual behavior. This is why black parents need to get more involved in their childrens life and educate them on sexual transmitted diseases, and that these young black teens need to have better self-control over their actions. This shit is so dissappointing. Proof that rap is a bad influence on our children.

It is her mothers fault and she has no father in the home. Parents are letting children down!!

Excellent post! Black parents need to be invilved in the lives of their children and teach them morals and respect. Young men need to keep their trousers zipped and young girls need to keep their legs closed. Schoolwork and not popularity should be the goal. There is so much negative peer pressure in the schools and in the Black community for young men and women to prove their masculinity or femininity by having sex. Too many young Black teen girls equate sex with love. It isn't. They are being used as sexual objects and this is the result. High STD and AIDS rates. Handing out condoms and other types of birth-control is only a stop-gap measure. These rates will continue to soar if steps aren't taken. The rap and hip-hop culture is definitely part of the problem. Rappers treating women as sexual objects in their songs and videos and and boasting about their sexual prowess is teaching our young people the wrong lessons. Sex should be reserved for adulthood when they are ready and mature enough. Black parents and health professionals need to step forward and educate these children and teens about sexual responsibility before it is too late.
