First of all I wanted to apologize to a poster on who was posting Bible verses on here that I was rude to, who I perceived (and possibly misread) as being the judgmental type. Sorry for the rude attitude I gave you without having conversed with you first, you know who you are.

I actually landed on these forums while researching things about the Bible on google. I usually don't put myself out here like this but...

I have never really known what I believed in and have always considered myself agnostic.

I have been having a nagging curiosity lately, and I just bought my first Bible about a month or 2 ago. But I am having a hard time, I do a lot of biblical/ historical research but I have a constant battle in my mind over what I believe. I see people use religion for negative things and it makes me want to give up.

I might be opening myself up for ridicule here but does anyone have any thoughts on my situation or any experiences with God you'd like to share in general?

I find that God is loving and merciful each and everyday to us. He's worthy to be praised.

Thank you Phoenix, I see a lot of mercy in my life as well, but sometimes I wonder is that God, or an awesome coincidence? Also I wonder, how do I know the Christian God is the real God, out of so many religions?

He loves you.

If you're not sure about something, seek with all that you are. It will be revealed.

Hi IrishAmericanGirl1986,

I'm at the point in life where I look upon every thing, including gravity, as just a coincidence. If you think about that for a minute, you'll realize Einstein's Quantum Theory of Gravitational Pull just got flushed down the porcelain bowl.

As for God, I'm probably not the person to guide you in your quest.

Many years ago, during prep for one of the Catholic ceremonies (can't remember which one) I thought it best to begin my prayer with an introduction. "Hello God, Sir. My name is Drilling for the nerve and I'd like ..."

God interrupted me by asking, "Who???"

Oddly enough, my mother always called me by my brother's name, so there may be a connection between the two, but it would only be conjecture on my part.

Anyway, I wish you luck. I sincerely hope you resolve the battle in your mind over what you believe and if you could, tell God I didn't take it personally.

Thank you Phoenix :). That's what I've been trying to do but I just get frustrated sometimes. I will continue my search.

Thank you, have you heard about entropy (order cannot come out of disorder)? It's something to ponder, and I do think it might point to a creator.

I'm sorry you didn't find what you were looking for, are you interested in ever searching again? It wouldn't hurt, who doesn't want to know why they're here? I think we all have a spiritual aspect to ourselves.

"Buddha did not believe in God, did not believe in prayer.

I want you to understand it: the moment God and prayer are discarded, the only thing that is left is to go in"--Osho

Thoughts are nothing more than an attempt to create meaning that doesn't really exist. Thoughts are just creativity, never the true reality. That's why the Buddha's say that "the only way to find the truth is to empty your cup (mind) completely". everything is just energy at work. when you die you go back to the truth because the brain that facilitates your thoughts and beliefs dies and all that is left is the truth about what you truly are.

"All compounds will be dissolved again, but the verities which determine all combinations and separations as laws of nature endure for ever and aye. Bodies fall to dust, but the truths of the mind will not be destroyed.

"Truth knows neither birth nor death; it has no beginning and no end. Welcome the truth. The truth is the immortal part of mind."--Buddha

If you become egoless heaven enters in you. Heaven is not a geographical thing somewhere, it is not that you go there. When you are egoless, you are heaven. When you are egoful, you are hell. It is not that hell is there somewhere at the bottom of existence and heaven is somewhere at the peak of existence – these are just metaphors. Heaven and hell are states of being.

Mind creates the idea of God and then starts inquiring what God is. And naturally, you cannot find God so it becomes more and more complex, you have to develop belief systems. "

"God was nothing but a creation out of fear. His temples, mosques, GURUDWARAS, churches – they were all out of fear. He was trembling, he was afraid. The new man will live out of love, not out of fear, because fear serves death, love serves life."-Osho

If you read the Bible, the god you serve, praise, and worship (out of fear), personally took the lives of legions of people and had others kill people as well.

Here's proof:

So no, your God (not my god), isn't merciful, but is ruthless, tyrannical, and malevolent.

The only thing your god is worthy of is death, a slow and painful death, at that.
Unfortunately, there's no way to kill the bloodthirsty, tyrannical, piece of s hit.

Thank you! I like the though that He might be knocking at the door.
