The young GENIUS will do no time in jail. A slap on the wrist and perhaps informal probation is all that will happen.

Don't be so ignorant! She did break the law. That is why she is being held on two FELONY counts in the juvenile detention center and has been expelled from her school.
She’s actually NOT being held stupid fk. She’s home now. Stop all the pandering and fake outrage. You look like a fool.

Im not saying that the girl was right. imo, the punishment was too harsh...same with the white boy and the gun.
Mistakes were made but they were treated like they acted with malicious intent. A drunk can kill a person and get off with a lighter sentence. Children make mistakes where no one gets hurt and end up expelled...felons for life. That's just wrong.
Luckily no one was hurt. It may be harsh but I don't believe it classifies as racism and especially if the laws are already on the books. One kid who put a vid of how to make one of those bombs on youtube was arrested. I agree that children make mistakes where no one gets hurt but in the case with Drano bombs, she's lucky she or others weren't. In some cases where zero tolerance has been used it is too extreme but when it comes to firearms or Drano bombs, then I believe it should be more than a slap on the wrist. I wouldn't say that she's so much of an example being made for others but that when it comes to firearms or Drano bombs, zero tolerance should be enforced. Unfortunately, that's what it's come down to in today's world.

How does the girl become a genius when people have been making Drano bombs for years. She's not the first person to find out how to make one. And like others w/respect to Drano bombs, she'll find out that there are legal consequnces for her actions.

No wonder kids are the way they are in that rather than parenting children, they turn around and sue when their child is in the wrong. School systems can't even do their job in that there is always some parent who wants to sue.

The girl's a genius, isn't she, because she blew up a Drano bomb and was expelled. Yep, that's the message children are growing up with. Reward bad behavior. Yep, that should definitely send out the right message. Then we wonder why things are going to from bad to worse.

Its not just sad, it self destructive.
America is on the path to self destruction. We are hindering our promising youth by chaining them with criminal records.
Its bad enough that the ACTUAL criminals are running rampant, now the ones that are trying to do right are being punished because big bad America cant come up with a better plan.
The zero tolerance policy is too broad...this Zero net is too big and its catching fish that should be thrown back.

To sit back and say "that's just how it is these days" is a crime in and of itself.

Marijuana has been legalized (decriminalized) in several states. Either be patient and wait for your state to do so or move to a state that has already. Pretty simple. Don’t preach to me about drugs, because I do not support marijuana users AT ALL.
I don't do drugs myself; I support freedom for individuals to do what they want to themselves, so long as it doesn't harm others in the process, though.

So do you agree with tyrannical government arresting people for growing, smoking, juicing or eating marijuana - a green, harmless, organic plant?

Then the parents need to teach their children that their actions can carry consequences. True that we have criminals running rampant and at some point, someone failed them. People don't just become criminals in that it started somewhere.

What if the worst had happened and either she or other children had been hurt? Then people would be screaming, why didn't someone do something to keep that from happening.

As I said, someone didn't impress upon her that actions carry consequences and if you blow up a Drano bomb at school, bad things will happen. There's a reason that there are felony charges w/respect to Drano bombs. It's not like getting caught smoking on school property. Someone can get hurt when they blow up. And I say that regardless of the race of the child. Things turned out badly for the girl but it could have been a whole lot worse. It could have been not only her but someone else's child as well that could have been injured.

It's a hard lesson but maybe it just may keep another child from getting hurt or that child growing up w/out understanding that there are consequences for one's actions.

Sorry for going off topic above. Anyway...

I'd really have to be there and see her intent concerning this 'bomb' she made.

If she did it just to see what would happen in the middle of an open field and made sure to let others know to stay back, warning of its explosive power, etc., etc., then I'd let her off with a very strict warning. The next time she does it, the consequences will be quite a bit more harsh.

If she put the bottle down and waited for someone to pick it up, then she deserves to be punished according to the law. I knew not to hurt others by the age of four (4). There's no excuse. The parents should be warned as well.

It all really depends on her intent and, of course, only those who know her and people who saw what happened with their own eyes can tell us about that.

I don't believe in coming down so harshly on someone merely to scare everyone else.

What next? Chopping arms off of thieves in order to scare other thieves into not stealing? This is pure idiocy.

Judge the individuals' intent, solely for the individual, not anyone else.

I would hardly call ENFORCING THE LAW “tyrannical.” Weed is illegal. Follow the law and that fixes it completely. I personally think weed should stay illegal, but that’s my personal opinion. It does appear to be on its way to being decriminalized in most states very soon. So those who choose to partake will have to relocate today or petition the politicians in their districts to introduce the appropriate legislation.

Per the Police Report, it states that toilet bowl cleaner was used. I highly doubt that any Science teacher would approve making what constitutes the works bomb.

"Is the Works bomb illegal? YES!

Why is the works bomb illegal? In the most simplest form, when making the Works bomb, one would usually use the toilet bowl cleaner called The Works. Since one of the intended uses of The Works is not listed as “making the Works bomb,” one would be using the product in a way that is inconsistent with its labeling, therefore one would be breaking the law.

A second reason why the Works bomb is illegal is that it is technically a bomb, hence the name “the Works bomb.” In its most elemental form, a bomb is any reaction that causes a change of pressure and is exothermic (releases heat). As we all know, making a bomb is illegal because it is illegal to possess a bomb. Therefore, even if one forgoes buying The Works and just uses HCl, one would still be breaking the law because a bomb would be produced.

Is there a legal way to do the works bomb? Yes. First off, you could contact your local governing body and find out if there’s a way to get a permit. I know it seems like overkill, but it’s better to be safe than sorry and a small permit fee is much better than paying legal fees and bail. Also, it may be legal to perform the experiment in a non-pressurized container. Of course, you would have to use HCl, not The Works, and you would also have to check your local laws regarding the possession of HCl and other lab equipment.

I’ve heard of many people getting fined and even imprisoned for making The Works Bomb. Unless you’re 100% sure that it’s legal to do in your area, I wouldn’t take any chances."

"More specifically, Wilmot's mini-explosion -- which came after she mixed "common household chemicals" in a plastic bottle -- violates Section 7.05 of the school's conduct code, Lauderdale says, which mandates expulsion for any "student in possession of a bomb (or) explosive device... while at a school (or) a school-sponsored activity... unless the material or device is being used as part of a legitimate school-related activity or science project conducted under the supervision of an instructor."

The Police were advised by the State Attorney to file charges of possessing or discharging weapons or firearms at a school sponsored event or on school property F.S.S. 790.115(1) and making, possessing, throwing, projecting, placing or discharging any destructive device F.S.S 790.161."

There is no case of "institutionalized racism". The law on the books is clear as is the school's policy.
