from afghansforpeace:

"... Why would the people of Afghanistan only pay attention to an action that took place thousands of miles away from home when many other blatant violations of their human rights have occurred in this ongoing war?"

Because their own president went out of his way to inform them of Jones' qu'ran burning.

I didn't see any Muslim really bothered about the silly jones's burning of the Qur'an. Yeah, why would the people of Afghanistan alone protest over that? Their civilians are being killed by NATO troops and they must be accustomed to seeing the Qur'an desecrated. Good that they don't watch TV and they don't access the Internet. I envy them. They don't have to disgust themselves by hearing the bullshit of the western media.

huh?

Speaking of "stupid," your co-religionists also thought Jones was a Catholic priest and actually sent a written complaint to the Vatican (!), but Jones isn't Catholic, or a priest: he's a "reverend".

In fact, the "Rev." Jones is the pastor of the Dove World Outreach Center, which is non-denominational; Jones may have no theological credentials and/or denominational affiliations at all!

He probably isn't anything official. Just someone who feels "called" to preach the gospel and see if he can make a little money that way.

Hey, let's start a church - I'll do the sermons and you collect the money.

These are people who know the Bible very well, so that they can quote it and distort it and get a few people to follow them.

Maybe the afghans are using this an excuse to run amok. They have killed aid workers before. They probably hate any westerner.

What if Westerners began behaving like muslims and began killing anyone on the street who looked muslim. We have a few of those, what if there were more?

"On Thursday, however, President Karzai made a speech and issued statements condemning the Koran burning and calling for the arrest of Mr. Jones for his actions. On Friday, that theme was picked up in mosques throughout Afghanistan."

'The top United Nations official in Afghanistan, Staffan de Mistura, blamed Taliban infiltrators for the killings, saying the victims were deliberately murdered rather than killed by an out-of-control mob. The mob gathered after three MULLAS at Friday PRAYER URGED ACTION in response to the Koran burning by a pastor, Terry Jones, in Florida on March 20.'

Has anyone else noticed, or is it just me, when someone asserts something that is offensive in the minds of many totally opposed to one another religious sects, they tend to unite together as ONE against it? Yesterday they could hardly bare to tolerate the existence of such blasphemers but today against a perceived common threat they become like brothers in the same faith. Just simple human nature? Or is it Hypocrisy at it's worst? Who do I speak of? Hey try the shoe on for yourself and if it fits please be honest and wear the wretched foot gear no matter how unflattering it is. I've worn it before myself.

In response to this, all aid workers and assistance should be withheld from Afganistan.

Sarah, a priest and a pastor may sometimes be the same thing (ie. A Catholic priest who is in charge of his parish), but in this case it is not.

You'll have to look up the many different Christian denominations and the differences of meanings of the terms, Minister, Priest, Pastor, etc in order to understand it for yourself.

This Terry Jones belongs to a Pentacostal Christian group which has no affiliation with the denominations who ordain Priests. He is not a Priest at all.

Hope that helps a little.
