Certainly is a muslim thing. The Palestinians do it, Saddam does it, The Taliban does it. Its because they do not value humanity. They know the west does, and they use it as strategy to get the upper hand.

Bring the boys home and Nuke them. Quit pissing around.

from the bbc:

"Gen Ghori, the senior commander for Afghan troops in the area, accused the Taliban of taking civilians hostage in Marjah and putting them in the line of fire.

"'Especially in the south of Marjah, the enemy is fighting from compounds where soldiers can very clearly see women or children on the roof or in a second-floor or third-floor window,' he is quoted by Associated Press as saying.

"'They are trying to get us to fire on them and kill the civilians.'"

The Taliban will sanction anything to generate negative press for this latest joint offensive.

The same crap every occupying army puts out.

Unfortunately, this seems to be a relatively common practice amongst those self-righteous Salafiasts and Wahabi Muslims. Those courageous fighter for Allah that abuse women and children and hide behind the skirts of the innocent.

What can we expect for Afghanistan? After almost 30 years of constant warfare that has destroyed their normal communities and all much of the structure of their culture and society. Gone are many of the mild, tolerant Sufis and the trust and respect of tribal leaders. Replaced instead with the implacable and intolerant extremist doctrines of the NWFP madrassas' Islam, an army of orphans and lost children raised with no concept of their own heritage and the customs of their forefathers. Heck, many have no skills or knowledge of anything but soldiering and chanting the words of a "holy" book they can't even understand! They don't even know how to farm anymore. God pity the Afghans.

That is the case with many Muslim children all over the world. They are taught the entire Quran in Arabic without even knowing the Arabic language. Afghan children are illiterate themselves.

Among other things you mentioned, Afghans are, sadly, in a very rough spot right now. The addiction to opium and it's derivatives, as well as heroine and cocaine, does not help the ailing Afghan society.

May God help the Afghan people.

Of course, our societies have our own problems. We all do. We all need to step up our game and get serious, fighting each other does not help us.
