Job Corps expels 4 students

i went to job corps center called talking leave job corp oklahoma i lost almost every bit of my sanity i got kicked out i went it as a very good student wih a positive attitude not all but most staff were jerks students bought and sold drugs on daily basis people were always getting jumped weekly because someone would spread a rumor that someone was a snitch u dont even have to be a part of drama are lisson to rumors to get ur ass beat all that needs to happen is a rumor to get strated and when this happens you !!!can not!!! get a restraining order job corp doesnt do that...the only thing that this center said you can do is leave for ur own safty i did not se very much positive from this cnter at all...and ended up losing my mind and got kicked from the program

alot of the kids that go to job corps is not from the city, they come from all over including oneonta.

99% come from the NYC area and most are told by the judge to go to job corps or get your ass thrown in jail!! they are sent to upstate ny and we have to put up with them!!their is a small few that make good!! but the rest are a crime waiting to happen. they need to move job corps back to the city and leave upstate alone and when they do crimes and drugs it will be to citys problem

gary jobs corps is a convaluted(SP?) place full of homosexuals and and shady people of all races. IT's like a gathering place for losers. I had no idea going into the program. i got hit in the back of the head w/ a brick for wearing red chuck taylors. unlike most students who attend the job corps in san marcus i actually had some college credits, and the only reason i decided to enroll in the program was to enter the college program. Which by the way they make extremely difficult to enter. I guess thats b/c the longer ur there the more they get paid for ur enrollment. it's shady as fuck. Well Gary, Job Corps IS next to my home AND I am also am employee. Get correct information before you spread your crackhead rumors.

One more thing Gary, 99% of the students are NOT forced to go to Job Corps. About 5 % are. Where do you get your info from?

Most Job Corps Centers have tremendous turnover as is typical for the number of current job openings at Oneonta: Finance and Administration Director,
Finance Manager, Payroll Clerk, Accounts Payable Clerk, Residential Advisor, Safety Officer, Senior Safety Officer, Dental Assistant, Career & Technical Training Instructor in Welding, Work Based Learning Coordinator, TEAP Coordinator, Substitute Instructors.

These aren't new jobs, these are replacement jobs for people who have left. Working for a for profit company working under Dept of Labor contract supposedly providing a service must be extremely difficult and unrewarding personally or financially.

I suppose U.S. Dept. of Labor does not care as long as nothing makes it look bad.

job has some positive kids and of course negative ones if u keep confined and do what u have to do then u will be fine im attending carville job corps i am 3 months in and i like it there r a few students i dont like but there r more that i do. but they do bring a pretty good amount of drugs on the campus and they could do a better job at preventing that but the bad kids get kicked out so you really just let them do what they want to and u just do what u have to do there r way to many oppurtunities to not take advantage of USE THE SYSTEM get all that u can from job corps dont waste your time on dum kids finish your education and get your vocational trade and get on with your life.!!!!!...

I'm a brilliant kid, but pretty lazy at times. Which is why I ended up here at Grafton Job Corps in Massachusetts from Connecticut. I got my GED even though I didn't want it. I got it unprepared/with the hardest difficulty test book/and with above average scores. I'm a certified Security Officer, I'm finishing up getting my High School Diploma, I'm working on getting my permit/license, and I'm going to be taking a Leadership Course to be a certified LEADER! When I get out of here, I'll probably work mall security for awhile, work as a lifeguard this summer. Save up money/help out my family. Training/working out with the Marines to condition my body to be prepared to go to basic next summer! Anyway from what I see/feel... Job Corps - I love it, but I hate it. Some of the greatest kids you'll ever meet, then again some of the worst. Staff doesn't really do their jobs. If you come here, don't let people get to you! And just do what you got to do, and be out!

Alan is right. As a jc employee I can hardly believe the mismanagement at oneonta job corps. many of the staff here look for ways to get out. most of the senior management are inept and would not last a day in a real corporate environment (these people are paid salaries that make me want to puke)

the rank and file does their best to provide value to the students who are sincere, but they receive little support from management. management is directly to blame for the staff morale being in the toilet.

On an unrelated note, i can confirm that some students who fail out of jc stay in the oneonta area. interesting how increasingly graffiti is becoming a problem in oneonta. if these people can't respect their environment (or themselves) they should go back to where defacing the community with graffiti is okay ...THEY ARE NOT WELCOME IN ONEONTA
