Doesn't have to be a WDC to be a great driver ... evidence of that is Lewis Hamilton, just becasue he has won a WDC does not make him anything special, in fact mostly he's just a comedy of errors ... Cacada, Monza, etc etc ... but I guess I'll have to draw you pictures to explain it all again hey Alley .....
Dont twist it bob! You tell me what gilles villeneuve did that made him great? or maybe its because he drove a ferrari

I don't need to twist it Alley, you're twisted enough for all of us. No need to justify anything either dumbass, simply because you have f*** all idea about anything F1 before Lewis Hamilton, and trying to explain it to you is like trying to tell Anthony Hamilton that Porsches are pretty powerful pieces of machinery, so no matter how many times you try, the dickhead will still end up putting it into the bushes .....

hey Ally were you even born when Gilles was driving???... probably not. If you were you would really not be asking this question, in your smug arrogant pissy little way, kind of shows your sadly lacking knowledge of F1 of course, which I have been saying for ages now, you are a moron, with no clue. Not that I expected anyhting less, you see dumbass there have been some really great dirvers in the real era of F1 motor racing, and not all of them were champions. these fools that race today are nothing near to the likes of say a Niki Lauda or the Gilles Villeneuve, but you would have had to see them race to understand, and quite sadly you cannot even understand the real reason you have a penis dangling between your legs ... so why not do us all a favour and stop thinking with it .. just for once ...

But you insist on an answer, so let's try satisfy your lack of understanding. You know there were a few things, firstly he was well admired by the great man Enzo ferrari for his drivng skill, his never say die attitude and his ability to make a crappy car look good made him alegend, not only with the ferrari fans but with all fans across the globe. Harvey Postlethwaite (look him up if you don't know who he is dumbass) said of Gilles ....

"That car...had literally one quarter of the downforce that, say Williams or Brabham had. It had a power advantage over the Cosworths for sure, but it also had massive throttle lag at that time. In terms of sheer ability I think Gilles was on a different plane to the other drivers. To win those races, the 1981 GPs at Monaco and Jarama — on tight circuits — was quite out of this world. I know how bad that car was"

You see Alley, when Harvey made this satement, Villeneuve has just spent an entire race in Spain keeping 5 quicker cars behind him, less than 1 second seperating the top 5 drivers. The man never gave up, his driving skills were legendary, and in the days when balls to the wall racing was what it was all about. I'd love to see your man crush hero Lewis Hamilton race like that.

The day he died he was outpaced by his teamate by 0.1 sec, not for pole but for 6th place. The guy went out on circuit because it was that important to do better, unfortunately he clipped Mass's car (no moron not Massa, he wasn't born yet), the car catapulted and Gilles was thrown out, breaking his neck against the safety fence.

This was also the guy who's front wing was damaged, and bent upwards on the car, the wing obscuring his view. He struggled in heavy rain, but he drove on, eventually the wing came off, and he ended up driving the rest of the race with no nose or front wing, and finihsed 3rd....

But I suppose the best words about what Gilles was all about came at his funeral when 1979 WDC champion and teammate Jody Scheckter simply stated ...

"I will miss Gilles for two reasons. First, he was the fastest driver in the history of motor racing. Second, he was the most genuine man I have ever known. But he has not gone. The memory of what he has done, what he achieved, will always be there..."

Jacques Joseph Charles Villeneuve, born April 9, 1971 in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec) is a Canadian automobile racing driver. He is the son of Formula One driver Gilles Villeneuve, and is the namesake of his uncle (also a racer). Jacques Villeneuve won the 1995 CART Championship, the 1995 Indianapolis 500 and the 1997 Formula One World Championship, making him only the third driver after Mario Andretti and Emerson Fittipaldi to achieve such a feat. To date, no other Canadian has won the Indianapolis 500 or the F1 Drivers' title.

Following two successful years in CART, Villeneuve moved into Formula One with the front running Williams team, alongside Damon Hill. In his debut season, Villeneuve challenged Hill for the title, winning four races and taking the fight to the final round in Japan. But the Canadian retired and Hill won the title. Villeneuve, however, did win the following year's title, this time challenging Michael Schumacher and once again taking it to the final round in Jerez. In the race, the two collided, resulting in Schumacher's retirement and subsequent disqualification from the 1997 World Championship, with Villeneuve going on to take third place in the race, and the overall title.

1997 would be the last year in which Villeneuve would win a championship level race and finish the season in the top three, and his career declined afterwards. Renault had pulled out of Formula One for 1998 and Villeneuve's Williams team had to fare with less competitive Mecachrome engines. Villeneuve moved to the newly formed British American Racing team in 1999 and stayed there for the next four seasons but, following poor results he was replaced by former British Formula Three Champion Takuma Sato. After a short run with Renault at the end of 2004, Villeneuve moved to the Sauber team for the 2005 season where he was outscored by his less experienced teammate Felipe Massa. The Sauber team were bought out by BMW for the following season and Villeneuve struggled to score points, taking seven points from eleven rounds before suffering an injury in Germany. The Canadian was replaced by Robert Kubica and soon BMW and Villeneuve parted company.

Outside of Formula One, Villeneuve has taken on several new careers: in sportscar racing, racing for Peugeot in the 2007 and 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans, jumping to NASCAR in August 2007 and racing as an invited driver in the Argentinian Top Race V6 series, and in music, so far releasing one album titled "Private Paradise".

Tell me honestly that this is a bad driver?.And also the color and drama this guy deliverd to formula one. when it was abit stealthy schumacker time. Dont forget that J.V won his title when M.S still was raceing not bad. And also look what J.V did before his Formula one years. sincerly C.W. former security guard to a indy 500 racecar driver
