Mixed messages about NFL woes conflict with hand-wringing

As the NFL's troublesome societal issues are hashed out through the media and inside boardrooms, ironies and mixed messages pile up like behemoths in a goal-line stand. With conviction and genuine emotion, famous former players on the panel of ESPN's "Sunday NFL Countdown" excoriated Adrian Peterson for taking a switch to his 4-year old son, leaving wounds that convinced a Texas grand jury to indict the Vikings running back on one count of injury to a child.
