Retiring After Tampa Bay Finale: Testaverde to end NFL career today
“He not only helped us on the field, but also in the locker room where his work ethic was a great example for our players. He is a pro in every sense of the word and will be missed.”
Vinny Testaverde's 21-year NFL career will end where it started.
The 44-year-old quarterback, who joined the desperate Carolina Panthers in October, said Saturday he will retire after today's season finale against Tampa Bay, the team that drafted Testaverde first overall in 1987.
'I feel fortunate to have been able to play for 21 years in the NFL,' Testaverde said in a statement. 'I have lived a dream and have gotten to leave the game on my own terms.'
Testaverde joined the Panthers just in time to start the Oct. 14 game at Arizona. At 43 years and 335 days, he became the oldest quarterback in NFL history to start and win a game. He surpassed that record when he started and won a Dec. 2 game against San Francisco. Read more

Coastal Carolina Football Notebook: Washington gets nickname
“He has become the leader of the offensive line [where] everyone is coming back. It is neat to watch him grow.
'[With Wolfe], the more reps the better he is doing.”
CONWAYCall him 'Shut Down.'
That is the nickname Coastal Carolina receiver turned two-way player Santini Washington has earned from teammates.
Washington picked up the moniker after picking off a pass in his first collegiate start at cornerback during Coastal's 17-14 win over Gardner-Webb last week.
Washington was filling in for injured starter Marrio Norman, and CCU coach David Bennett said Washington might be forced to do so again at noon Saturday at Charleston Southern, where the Chants will play their season finale. Read more
