49ers defense looks to bounce back from tough day

The San Francisco defense dearly misses the menacing presence of suspended pass-rushing specialist Aldon Smith, and it better get used to it. Smith is just two games into his nine-game penalty from the NFL for violations of league substance-abuse and personal-conduct policies.

49ers film review: Seeing yellow; Lemonier's disappearing act; rough night for rookies

There are many, many observations and notes after re-watching last night's 28-20 win by Chicago, the first by the Bears on the road against San Francisco since Walter Payton, Mike Singletary, Jim McMahon and William “Refrigerator Perry” were in Bears uniforms together. But first a subtle editorial: Twenty six total penalties! Are you freakin' kidding me?! The only person who wants to see Carl Cheffers that much is Carl's mom, and even she was sick of him by game's end.

Kaepernick's mistakes cost 49ers in Levi's debut

Colin Kaepernick has delivered two drastically different performances in prime time against the Chicago Bears, from that sensational first career start two years ago at Candlestick Park to the complete debacle in his Levi's Stadium debut. Kaepernick threw two of his three interceptions in the fourth quarter and also lost a fumble, watching Jay Cutler rally the Bears from a late double-digit deficit to a stunning 28-20 win to spoil the first regular-season game in the 49ers' new $1.2 billion stadium.

Bears Don't Want a Replay of Last Meeting With 49ers

Bears linebacker Lance Briggs doesn't have fond memories of his previous encounter with 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick. Bears linebacker Lance Briggs told the Chicago Tribune this week that his lasting memory of that game was the voice of the public-address announcer at Candlestick Park: Kaepernick went 16-of-23 for 243 yards and two touchdowns that night, putting up a passer rating of 133.1. Now the Bears come to California again, this time to face the 49ers Sunday night in the regular-season debut of Levi's Stadium.

Why Corey Lemonier Is the San Francisco 49ers' X-Factor in Week 2

The San Francisco 49ers ' X-factor in Week 2 was one of the few players who found himself on the wrong end of the box score the Sunday prior. The second-year outside 'backer did not register a single quarterback pressure and was a non-factor overall as a pass-rusher.
