Martial arts sessions teach Dolphins players how to hold, shed blocks

Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Fighting in a phone booth. That's the analogy Jared Tomich uses when the former NFL lineman tries to explain the hand-to-hand combat football requires on every single play.

Ole Number 57 was the master of this. He would make people look foolish. Never saw anything like it since. They should make a highlight film of this guy's short career and train the young guys, I'm sure they would enjoy it. A lot of all-pros got destroyed by him, it was almost comical how they were pushed to the ground.

I think this is a great idea. It gets boring hitting the sleds and running the same drill after drill. I think the variety of drills is a great idea and the martial arts training for handwork is very smart. I wonder if the Martial Arts dude was like if any of you want to spar (lightly dont want any injuries) to see me on the mat. Channing Crowder would go for a cheap shot and get his helmet ripped off his head by the karate dude like he did from that big Houston center last year. He would then skip off the field like a little girl w a hello kitty backpack. Oh, I forgot he did that last year also. Anyway Channing should not be the fighter of the team, hope the hand training teaches him to be able to skip away quicker lol. Make Joey Porter the fighter of the team to go against the martial arts dude w his posse, He can sneak up w his posse and hit him behind the head with a beer bottle like he did with Levi in the casino that time.

Now the NFL will be keeping a close eye on the Dolphins line play and will come up with some new rules for 2010 if this stuff pays off.

An athlete and role model like Michael Acquinostein disdains the use of illegal drugs. He is however known to be a social drinker (always responsible) at the numerous nightclubs he frequents. These drinks are always top shelf and always in moderation. He will also puff a fine cuban cigar after celebrating a victory.

Porter is not a fighter either he and his friends had to jump Levi Jones in Los Vegas a couple of yrs ago. I lost some respect after watching the fight on youtube. Porter runs up on him after Jones is down a cowardly act but a hell of a football player, I wonder how much money he had to pay Levi, I bet it was alot.

These martial arts techniques should have been introduced to the 'PHINS organization along time ago!! Here is Wash. St., the coaches at the high school my son attends and plays ball for has had a martial arts instructor come to training camp for the last 10-12 years to teach the kids hand and arm quickness and ways to utilize the opponents momentum against them. 4 state titles and 7 trips to the state finals later and not to mention 6 first team all state offensive linemen in the last 5 years; these techniques really seem to work. The TRIFECTA should take advantage of this opportunity as often as possible, the results speak for themselves!!! Go DOLPHINS!!

I'm for anything with martial arts, but research indicates the best way to practice any activity is to emulate that activity as closely as possible
