Rams add cornerback, re-sign offensive lineman
The St. Louis Rams added veteran cornerback David Macklin and brought back center Brett Romberg on Thursday.
Both players agreed to one-year deals.
Macklin, 29, is an eight-year NFL veteran who has played in 116 games. He spent last season with the Washington Redskins, appearing in six games as a reserve.
Romberg, 28, started nine games at center last season for the Rams. He missed seven of the team's last nine games because of injuries to both of his ankles.
Romberg will compete for the starting job this year. Other players vying for playing time at center include Dustin Fry, Nick Leckey and Mark Setterstrom, who is looking to switch positions after the club signed free-agent left guard Jacob Bell to six-year, $36 million contract. Read more

Rams' free-agent options dwindle

Rams set to face off with Favre
“We are playing the Green Bay Packers. If you are in awe of who you are playing, then that is a loss already. We have to go out and take care of business.”
Many in the sellout crowd at the Edward Jones Dome on Sunday will be there to watch Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre playing what probably play for the final time in the Gateway City.
The St. Louis Rams won't play the Packers next season, and though the Packers are slated to play in St. Louis in 2009, it's likely that the 38-year-old Favre will have retired by then.
So this could be the final chance to see the old gunslinger with No. 4 on his back in person.
'Obviously he is going to have a lot of fans here,' Rams center Brett Romberg said. 'He has a lot of fans around the country. I'm even a big Brett Favre fan myself. It's going to be nice seeing him play on Sunday.' Read more

Rams' chief backs Linehan for 2008
“He wants me thinking about some of the things we want to get done”
St. Louis Rams coach Scott Linehan will be back next season despite the team's disappointing 3-10 record this season.
Rams President John Shaw gave Linehan a vote of confidence on Monday.
'It's important to know you've got support and those things,' Linehan said. 'But at this point, it's really not my issue. My issue is trying to get our fourth win. That's where my mind is at.'
Shaw said Linehan isn't to blame for the waves of injuries that struck the Rams this season.
The Rams had 11 players on injured reserve, and have used 17 different combinations on their offensive line in 13 games. Read more
