VikesCentric: Breaking down Cordarrelle Patterson's big run
Though Patterson owes the rich history of the NFL, perhaps it is more accurate to say the Vikings can thank Norv Turner's willingness to engage in a time-honored NFL tradition of borrowing what works from other NFL coaches, which in this case is an adaptation on the Buck Sweep and Lombardi Sweep concepts from the 1960s translated to modern Vikings football. It's somewhat similar to the play the Steelers called in the 2005-2006 Super Bowl against the Seahawks to give Willie Parker a 75-yard touchdown run, the famous "Power O".

Vikings' Week 1 playing-time breakdown
An analysis of the snap counts from the Minnesota Vikings ' 34-6 win over the St. Louis Rams at the Edward Jones Dome on Sunday: Offense Quarterback: Matt Cassel 58. Offensive line: Charlie Johnson 58, Matt Kalil 58, John Sullivan 58, Phil Loadholt 58, Brandon Fusco 58, Joe Berger 3. Receivers: Cordarrelle Patterson 45, Greg Jennings 44, Jarius Wright 21, Adam Thielen 13, Rodney Smith 1. Running backs: Adrian Peterson 43, Jerome Felton 17, Matt Asiata 14, Jerick McKinnon 3. Tight ends: Kyle Rudolph 55, Rhett Ellison 31. Noteworthy: The Vikings' plan to give Peterson a breather is already taking form; he played 74 percent of the Vikings' snaps on Sunday, and the only times he saw that little of a workload last year were when he was injured against Baltimore, or the Vikings were behind by so much they were throwing on almost every play .

With Fusco deal, Vikings pay for continuity
The five-year, $25 million contract extension the Minnesota Vikings gave Brandon Fusco on Saturday came three years after they finished a seven-year contract extension with Adrian Peterson , which also came on the day before the season in 2011. Since then, the Vikings' spending pattern has been consistent: They prized continuity on the offensive line and would devote the necessary resources to ensure they would have it.
