Lions don't expect Lawson return this season

Lions coach Jim Caldwell said Monday he does not anticipate rookie Nevin Lawson to return this season after he suffered dislocated toes in his left foot during the Lions' 24-7 loss to Carolina on Sunday. Lawson was immediately taken to Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina, following the injury and was in surgery before the Lions game concluded Sunday.

Turnovers prove costly as Lions stumble to Panthers

The Lions lost to the Carolina Panthers, 24-7, at Bank of America Stadium with Stafford making inaccurate and often rushed passes, finishing 27 of 48 for 291, one touchdown and an ugly fourth-quarter interception. With the Lions down 13-7 early in the final quarter and the ball at their 48, Stafford underthrew a deep pass into double coverage to Calvin Johnson on the first play of the drive.

Injuries force changes in Lions' secondary

When starting cornerback Bill Bentley tore his ACL early in the game, Lawson was thrown immediately into the fire against Eli Manning, Victor Cruz and the Giants, and he'll remain there this Sunday against Cam Newton and the Panthers. "We weren't expecting Nevin to play that much, obviously, but every player on our roster knows that they are one play away from being on the field," defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said.
