Oakland Raiders and Young Quarterbacks: Walk The Plank?

Full story: Bleacher Report

In its own way, you have to feel sorry for some of these guys. These young quarterbacks join the Raiders right after a Super Bowl berth and the mindset is, What can I do, to get the team over ... by Raider Card Addict 15 reads Opinion In its own way, you have to feel sorry for some of these guys.

Can't blame the writer for writing this because the only QB the Raiders actually drafted that panned out was Kenny Stabler. I forgot all about Scott Driesbach who wasn't even drafted and was injured after his preseason. But if you look at all the ones we've drafted since Stabler...Marc Wilson, Steve Beurline, Todd Marinovich, Billy Joe Holbert, Marques Tuiososopo, Andrew Walter, and Jamarcus Russell. How many were actually given the chance to start and show what they had? Marinovich showed that he didn't have it and made Raider fans everywhere (especially this one) appreciate Jay Schroeder more. I really think Beurline would've been developable but had passing issues early in his career and never really panned out until he went to Carolina. Holbert had plenty of opportunity when playing in place of often injured Jeff Hostetler, but I think was given to many chances. Tui looked good when he finally got his chance to start and nearly lead us to a comeback win over KC but underthrew Tim Brown causing Brown to have to step out of the endzone to catch the pass and injury the next week pretty much shelved him for the rest of his career since we never gave him another chance nor did any other team. Andrew Walter, I think could've done better if it wasn't for the "Fossil" offense and think he still could be good if given the right opportunity. At least Russell is getting more of a chance than Tui or Walter but the veteran is still there that can easily take the job from him in Jeff Garcia (as Kerry Collins did Tui and Aaron Brooks, Josh McCown, and Daunte Culpepper did Walter).

It seems to me that the ones that showed some potential right away never got fair chances and the ones that had failure written all over them got more chances than they deserved.

I'm not too happy about guys like Kerry Collins and Aaron Brooks getting in the way of developing Tui and Walter, but as long as Tui was around, he apparently didn't show anything because other wise I think he would've gotten more chances. I think there is still hope for Walter but probably not with the Raiders since they invested so highly in Russell.
