After a week's hiatus - and I have to say, it was a good week - we resume our position-by-position look at the 2009 San Francisco 49ers by examining the outside linebackers.

A 49ers player who is worth keeping an eye on is OLB Ahmad Brooks, the former top pick in the supplemental draft by the Bengals who we're told has become sort of a pet project of head coach Mike Singletary.

I was originally going to break up the linebackers by inside and outside. However, I realize there are cross-over issues on the bubble and it should hopefully generate a little more discussion looking at all the linebackers combined together.

The 49ers just wrapped up seven straight days of practice, the last three of which left their hard-to-please head coach with a warm feeling in his stomach.

And then there were none. One day after veteran receiver Isaac Bruce rejoined his teammates at OTAs, safety Mark Roman, who had been seeking a trade, did the same.

Mark Roman was back on the 49ers' practice field Tuesday to the mild surprise of everyone - including Mark Roman.
