Daredevil Evel Knievel dead at 69
Evel Knievel, the hard-living motorcycle daredevil whose jumps over Greyhound buses, live sharks and Idaho's Snake River Canyon made him an international icon in the 1970s, died Friday.

No disrespect intended, but it's amazing he made it to 69. I will always remember all the Super-Bowl level hype surrounding his Snake River Canyon jump, and watching as he failed miserably. At least he always had the guts to try things most of us would just say is insane.

i remember all of it to a real showman he could sure work a crowd. there was a special on and he said his engineer messed up his chute. sorry to hear hes gone.

If you ever saw his spills on a Harley in slow motion you know he was the real deal...To get up and do it again makes it even more factual. And, I particularly liked his American Flag theme...gone but not forgotten.

Evel wanted to do a skydiving stunt without a parachute. He planned to land in one of three giant haystacks and let people bet on which one he would hit. The Feds wouldn't allow him to jump from a plane without the chute so the stunt was canceled.

That's true, I read somewhere that he broke every bone in his body, so it was surprising that he lived so long. I remember the toys too, the bikes and that rocket thing, he WAS the 70's. Who do we have now? We live in very safe times, no one these days would be allowed to do anything like that again. |
