That was evident by the 20-year prison sentence handed to an Asheville woman recently for selling prescription painkillers. A Buncombe County jury convicted Kathy Kaye Rider, 46, of Jonestown Road, on drug trafficking charges.

Assistant District Attorney Chris Hess, who prosecuted the case, said Rider had legitimate prescriptions for the opiate-derived drugs oxycodone and hydrocodone, but sold pills of the drugs to undercover officers in August and September of 2008.
