Full story: El Sentinel

Deadly overdoses of anti- anxiety drugs and painkillers spiked in the Orlando area and across the state last year, experts said, evidence of the growing threat posed by the abuse of legal prescription drugs.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that addicts get help with medicaid and those with legitimate health problems do not. Perhaps it is the economy ...layoffs, reduction of hours, while the state just keeps increasing costs...or maybe it is just the subsidies to the drug companies that push these drugs like candy.

Another fine clue that no one has any coping skills anymore - the fact that a pill will cure everything means they don't need to develop coping skills.

There was an extensive series done on this problem but new corrupt (5 years ago?) editors at the sentinel sided with drug companies over something as simple as an ill-advised title for the series.

This was the last time any real reporting was done t this paper, reporters force into lock step with more conventional thinking.

There was never a reason given for the newspapers accusation against itself as far as a motive, what they decided was poor treatment of the poor little multi-million $ pharm industry.

Its funny how $$ pharm ad can get greedy media types to turn on good journalist. Bad timing new editor and shamelessly unloyal cohorts and greedy conspirators

snetor Bryd zquahed a bill for oxy track which most states have inacted leaving Florida as a safe haven for perscription crug addcits that move to flroida in droves for eay accessability. This all because the Sentinel floded like a box while under soem pressure

I don't see this as a problem. They obtain drugs illegally, then overdose & die. It's simply the Darwin Theory at work. Works for me!

I have taken 42,000 doses of Tylenol combined with butalbital over 30 years. According to statistics, I should be dead from liver disease. Also I have taken some were about 4,000 doses of Levo Dromoran prn over 30 plus years and never had respiratory depression or death. I find my self a unique patient. How come I maintained control and others can’t? There isn’t one human on this earth that could say that they ever received anything from me.

There are some patients I know, just looking for Drugs, and there are those patients that have a real medical problem. Because of a few out of control, we all pay for the consequences of the medical politics and scrutiny involved.

Does everything in your life revolve around hating conservatives, or just this article about prescription drug deaths? What does this have to do with political affiliation? Get a grip lib_tard.

Your s/n being "heavy intellectual" coupled with your spelling and grammatical errors causes me to say STFU!

Are you that insecure your s/n needs to somehow reflect your perceived intelligence?

It's hard to feel bad for these people that overdose on this crap. But these people will do anything to catch a buzz. What ever happened to smoking a little dope and having a few beers? I can only say, good riddance to the losers.

Do we have proof that it was the single medication xanax or hydrocodone or whatever that killed these folks? What other medications were in their systems? I too should be dead from all the tylenol and something else that I used to take for pain, but I'm not. So now everyone wants to just flat out ban these medications? Or make them next to impossible to get? What is the country coming to? What about the legitimate people who actually need these medications? Put your thumb in a vise and twist it, then tell me you don't need something for pain or anxiety. Imagine that kind of pain every day. Only those who have been there can understand. And how much of said medication did they take? Even a handful of aspirin will probably kill you. Let's disclose the rest of the story of each individual before jumping to conclusions.

RE: Levo D
I have also been drug tested by one of the largest drug testing company in the world, Ameritox. There is no test for Levorphanol until you are receiving 30 to 50 mg per day. 2mg to 4mg is the normal oral dosage. I have been tested multiple times with a result of zero presence. I never paid them:$2,500 and I never will!

YOU get a grip, you horse'sass. You right wing hypocrites like name calling don't you, well you can dish it out but you can't take it. It's always refreshing to read someone here who isn't parroting Rush Limbaugh all the time. Unfortunately that's not you.

Is the article suggesting that these overdoses are accidental, knowing, or recreational? Each one is different. If accidental, did the patient receive enough instruction from the physician and pharmacist about the proper dosing schedule? If knowing, it's suicide, and what can be done since mental health coverage is severely lacking with most health plans and pricey? If recreational, then we're approaching the issue from a law enforcement angle rather than a public health angle, which is a mistake (again). I'm not surprised that benzodiazepines are being misused with all the stress the state of our monetary system has put upon us these days, in each of the three possible ways.

I liked this post and agree whole heartedly, people like these are the ones that I wish just for one day I could give my daily pain too, just to see how they tolerate it, just so I could sit back and watch them squirm. I know one thing they wouldn't be going to work like I do, or riding a bike, or running a media blasting company. I know for a fact they would be curled up in the fetal position still in their bed at home, crying with everything they got in them.

Doctors should have the right to treat there patients as they see with out fear of political surveillance. This political surveillance happened in the State of North Dakota July of 2008 and it all came from the North Dakota Medical Board, ( the good old boys), when they noticed one Dr. treating patients, which migrated from two large medical establishments in Fargo ND, to an Independent DR. , and resulted in a large patient loss for each. This was thousands of dollars loss for each of the two large medical establishments in Fargo ND. The North Dakota Medical Board has Reprehensive from each of the two large Medical providers in Fargo ND. The two large medical providers which were nothing but filling quotas should be filed under the Federal RICO act.

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Cancer

If you thought yesterday was fraught with tension the temperature rises a few notches again today, as Mars turns retro in your house of finances and values. What's eating you? Maybe you're annoyed because your spare time is being eroded by duties that are weighing heavily on your shoulders. You might also be miffed by the flippant attitude of a certain person who you think should be taking life a lot more seriously. Calm down or you'll blow a gasket.
