I started the generic version of cytomel about 5 weeks ago. I was sent the generic version when I sent in my refill to Medco. Since starting it I've developed terrible heartburn/indegestion. I've had mood swings and my first migrane in over 4years. I also have shortness of breath and my stomach swells. This is the same reaction I had to the name brand synthroid.I was treated for asthma for over 5 years before I was sent the generic form of synthroid, by accident, by Medco.I took it anyway, thinking it didn't really matter what I took, I still felt sick. And as I suspected all along, my allergic symptoms disapeared. The only problem, my thyroid symptoms have gotten worse and I've developed more serious complications. When my TSH rises, so does my blood pressure.I've become so sick I can't tell anymore when my thyroid is out of whack. I've had a TSH as high as 36 and not even known it. I've gained over 65 pounds and now have diabetes. All while on a diet perscribed by my dietician.I also have terrible joint pain and stiffness and was told by my pcp I probably have rhuematoid arthritis. Though I haven't gone for an official diagnosis. I've gone from a healthy, active woman, to a fat sick swollen mess! I suspect my new symptoms are an allergic reaction to something in the generic version of cytomel, but how do you prove it? I would love to try the natural thyroid meds, but I see now that could be a problem. Why can't doctors realize that not everyone does well on the same drugs. And for people like me with allergies, why don't they take us seriously. I begged for 5 years and after numerous tests including 3 PFT's and a nuclear stress test and echocardiagram, it turned out to be exactly what I said, an allergic reaction.I exercise and diet obsessively, but get no results. I do keep my diabetes under control, but have found no one that can help me with weight loss. Actually, finding someone to take you seriously has proven impossible for me. And for some of us, these drugs do nothing but make us sicker, fatter, and frustrated.

Hi. I started generic Cytomel 3 weeks ago and also have terrible heartburn :-(. I've been looking for what's causing it, and came upon your post. Maybe it IS from the Cytomel then. Anyone else?

I've been taking generic Cytomel for about 3 months....no indigestion/heart burn, or any other problems that I can think of....I also started eating more PALEO, too....maybe that helps.

I received a generic prescription for Cytomel. Within 2.5 months, my TSH went from <0.05 (too low) to 4.66 (too high).
I take Synthroid too, and don't have problems with that, but I never get generic versions of synthroid. My physician immediately sent in a prescription for Cytomel. Evidently, the generic was not up to par. |

Was switched to the generic cytomel 2 months ago and started to develop headaches my TSH also went from borderline low to above 5 in the course of several months.
