Mercedes-Benz currently tackles the smaller passenger vehicle segment in Europe with the recently refreshed A- and B-Class cars .

German carmaker Daimler AG said Wednesday its Mercedes-Benz car unit would build a new car plant in Kecskemet, Hungary, and make further investments in its Rastatt plant in Germany.

Daimler is studying plans to build a car factory using low-cost labour in eastern Europe, with options to be presented to its board, two German magazines said.
