Two alleged gang members were arrested June 6 and charged with various crimes after a traffic stop near 10th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Waukegan, authorities said. Edurawdo L. Hawthorne, 29, of the 300 block of McKinley Avenue, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a weapon without a firearm owner identification card, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, fugitive from justice, and obstructing justice, authorities said. An 18-year-old from Zion is being held on $1 million bail after Waukegan police said he fired shots at officers early Friday. Olvan Quezada, of the 2900 block of 30th Street in Zion, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder, three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm in the direction of a peace officer, defacing a firearm and possession of a weapon by a street gang member. Waukegan police are searching for a man who shot one person during a robbery attempt at the BP gas station at 902 Grand Ave. in Waukegan early Wednesday morning. According to surveillance camera footage released by police Wednesday afternoon, the man with the gun -- a thin black man with facial hair, according to witnesses -- approached two men with his weapon drawn while they were gassing up their car around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. A 54-year-old Waukegan man was sentenced to 21 years in prison Monday for the repeated sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13. Under a negotiated plea deal, Jose Hernandez-Tovar pleaded guilty to two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault against a child. The charge carried a possible sentence of six to 60 years in prison, according to prosecutors. Comment?
