  • Accused killer arrested in New York

    A local man being sought in connection with the fatal shooting of the city's hero barber last year was arrested in Troy, N.Y. Jordan "Gunner" Hinton was brought back to the city on Monday and charged with murder, felony murder, attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and gun charges. Police said the 30-year-old Hinton is accused with Mark "Pockets" Christian of the murder of Deon Rodney, a local barber who was shot to death on Oct. 14, 2017, while trying to protect his customers including a young boy.

    A prison guard faces charges he fraudulently claimed to be incapacitated by an on-the-job injury when he was actually working as a bouncer at a Troy bar and getting paid off the books. Benjamin Essenter, 44, of Clifton Park was arrested and arraigned in Colonie Town Court on the charges of grand larceny, insurance fraud and the Workers' Compensation crime of fraudulent practices - all felonies.
