Summit County Common Pleas Judge Todd McKenney on Tuesday sentenced Scott Purk, 53, to life in prison with parole eligibility in 18 years for killing Margaret Purk. Scott Purk is currently serving a 28-year sentence in an unrelated 2010 arson conviction that spurred the reopening of the investigation into his wife's death. Comment?

An Ohio jury this week convicted a man of strangling his pregnant wife to death with a belt in 1985, in a case that was re-opened as a result of a 2009 arson investigation, a prosecutor's spokesman said on Wednesday. A Summit County jury convicted Scott Purk, 53, of murder and tampering with evidence on Tuesday after a six-day trial in Akron, said James Pollack of the Summit County prosecutor's office. Comment?

An attorney for a man on trial in the 1985 death of his pregnant wife said that most of the evidence in the 30-year-old case simply doesn't exist. Scott Purk's defense attorneys said Tuesday during closing arguments that medical records, police reports, 911 calls and other items typically offered as evidence in murder trials were destroyed after Margaret Purk's death was ruled a suicide.
