A Brooklyn ex-convict accused of slaying a prostitute last year in a Grasmere motel rejected an offer Monday to plead guilty to attempted murder in exchange for a 16-year sentence. Carl October, 27, nixed the plea offer in state Supreme Court, St. George, five days after his accomplice, Derekson Lett, pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree robbery in connection with the April 4, 2015 incident in which Michelle Hernandez-Vasquez, 21, was killed during a botched holdup in the Cosmopolitan Hotel, 1274 Hylan Blvd. October's lawyer, Maria Guastella, said during a conference her client wants more time to mull the offer; however, she told him the deal would be taken off the table after Monday. Derekson Lett will be sentenced to concurrent 11-year prison terms for his pleas to first-degree robbery and attempted first-degree robbery. Derekson Lett, 27, pleaded guilty in state Supreme Court, St. George, to attempted first-degree robbery stemming from the April 4, 2014, incident in which Michelle Hernandez-Vasquez, 21, was killed in the Cosmopolitan Hotel, 1274 Hylan Blvd., at about 3:20 a.m. Sources with knowledge of the case said Hernandez-Vasquez, who was featured in ads on backpage.com, was working as a prostitute in room 201, while her pimp waited in the bathroom. A Georgia man is recovering from a gunshot wound while his girlfriend's sister is in police custody following a shooting that took place Monday morning at the Comfort Inn in Chipley. The Chipley Police Department responded to the motel, located at 1140 Motel Drive, shortly before noon after receiving a report of a gunshot victim. Comment?
