A Benton County man was arrested Sunday after he met deputies with a .22-caliber rifle when they arrived at his home to investigate a report of cruelty to a dog. Raymond William Maresh, 63, of 18875 Sugar Creek Road in Garfield was arrested on three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer or correctional employee, felony aggravated cruelty to animals and possession of firearms by certain persons, according to jail records. A charge filed against a Springdale man who was arrested following the stabbing death of a woman near Tontitown in May 2014 was dismissed Tuesday , according to the Washington County prosecutor's office. The prosecutor dropped the hindering apprehension charge against Lewis Anthony Hedges, 35, citing insufficient evidence, the prosecutor's office said. Comment?

A convicted sex offender suspected of attacking a woman jogging on Lake Fayetteville Trail in September also attacked another woman on the trail the same day, police said. Fayetteville police arrested Richard Leroy Turner, 33, of 802 Jeffery Place in Lowell on Wednesday on suspicion of kidnapping, aggravated assault and second-degree battery. Comment?

Police arrested a man Thursday they say fatally shot a woman in the head in May at her Springdale apartment. Antoine Jackson, 29, of 1200 Park Drive in North Little Rock was booked into the Washington County jail on charges of first-degree murder, two counts of tampering with evidence, possession of a firearm by a certain person and aggravated assault on a family or household member. A Little Rock man is facing a first-degree murder charge Thursday in the death of a woman whose body was found in a Springdale apartment back in May. Police said they found Emily Nash, 28, dead at Bailey Street Apartments the morning of May 27. Nash had a gunshot wound to her head and hand and detectives found the scene had been staged to appear like a suicide, according to an arrest report. Antoine Jackson, 29, who had been a person of interest in the case in May , is now facing charges of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, possession of a firearm by certain persons and aggravated assault on a family household member, according to his arrest report. A Tontitown man pleaded guilty to capital murder and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole Monday in Washington County Circuit Court. Brock Alan Commo Atkins, 20, was charged with the stabbing death of Leann Frazier, who was killed May 21, 2014, at Atkins' home. Comment?

A former Washington County constable has sued 16 law enforcement officers, judges and prosecutors, including Benton County Sheriff Kelley Cradduck, over his 2013 arrest involving the possession of blue lights and a traffic stop that he claims never happened. Tom Clowers of Springdale contends in a federal lawsuit that he was arrested Jan. 25, 2013, after someone told police that Clowers had blue lights attached to his car and had pulled over the person. Police arrested a man Thursday they said used a gun to threaten his ex-girlfriend and hit her dog with the gun, according to a preliminary police report. Derrick Darnell Stidum, 34, of Springdale was arrested in connection with parole violation, terroristic threatening, residential burglary, animal cruelty, possession of a firearm by a certain person, second-degree battery and violation of a city ordinance.
