Editor's note: We published this story earlier in the week, but here it is again in case you missed it. On Monday at approximately 9:15 a.m., Vernon police received a 911 call from a woman who was reporting she was just attacked by a male in her vehicle, which was parked in a lot at 200 Regan Rd., and that during the attack, a significant portion of her nose was bit off by the suspect. Comment?

Vernon police say a 33-year-old man has been arrested after a social services worker driving him to a medical appointment reported he bit off part of her nose. Police said the woman told officers that the man, who has a history of psychiatric conditions, became angry when she made a wrong turn. Comment?

Connecticut Sikhs, members of a South Asian religion that lost six worshippers in a Wisconsin temple massacre in 2012, are inviting the public to a candlelight vigil Friday to remember the nine people killed by a gunman inside a South Carolina church last month. Two Meriden men implicated in a violent assault at a South Windsor auto shop that left one victim permanently injured and unable to work received suspended prison sentences Monday in Superior Court in Hartford. Luis Miguel Ruis and Francisco Gabriel Ruiz, who are brothers, were minor players in the crime and provided key information to police that ultimately led to the convictions of Nathaniel Chambers and Jose Luis Ramos, who carried out the assaults, prosecutor David Zagaja said.
