A parolee fatally shot following a sheriff's pursuit in Hemet was identified Friday as a 27-year-old San Jacinto man. According to sheriff's spokesman Deputy Michael Vasquez, deputies spotted Vallejo about 4:30 p.m., driving in the area of California Road and state Route 74, on the outskirts of Hemet, and recognized him as a convicted felon wanted for alleged parole violations. 1 comment

Anthony Lorenzo Vallejo, 27, died after he was shot as he emerged from his pickup and pointed a gun at a deputy, a Sheriff's Department news release said. Deputies had tried to pull him over, but he sped off before crashing at Cawston and Acacia avenues. Comment?

Jury deliberations got underway Monday in the penalty trial of a convicted felon who fatally stabbed a Hemet teenager to take possession of the youth's mobile phone. Francisco Roy Zavala, 23, was convicted last month of first-degree murder for the Jan. 14, 2013, slaying of 16-year-old Eric Ronald Sargeant Jr. Jurors also found true a special circumstance allegation that the crime occurred during the commission of a robbery. A woman was arrested Saturday, August 1, after police say she collided with a man in a motorized scooter at the intersection of De Anza Drive and Potrero Street in San Jacinto. Donna Sperling, a 42-year-old San Jacinto resident, is being held on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to a Riverside County Sheriff's Department news release. A 33-year-old East Hemet man pleaded not guilty to a murder charge Wednesday, July 29, in a court appearance at the Banning Justice Center in connection with the slaying of a man whose decomposed remains were discovered July 21 off Bautista Road near Tripp Flats Road in Anza. Craig Douglas Falconer was arrested Friday, July 24, in East Hemet on a warrant that also charged him with using a pistol to assault an unidentifed woman. Comment?
