A man was shot today at a San Jacinto home, leading to the arrest of one suspect and a street-by-street search for others. The shooting was reported about 6 a.m. in the 1300 block of Avenida Garnette, near Esplanade Avenue, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Comment?

A man who cultivated and sold marijuana derivatives out of his San Jacinto home was sentenced today to three years probation and six months in a sheriff's work release program. James Herbert White, 49, pleaded no contest last week to manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of marijuana for sale and possession of marijuana products for sale. Comment?

A San Jacinto boxer with professional aspirations, who was murdered after falling for a social media scam, will have his story told Wednesday, Feb. 10, in an episode of an Investigation Discovery TV series. Eddie Leal, 23, was killed May 30, 2011, after he arranged to meet a woman from a fake Facebook profile named "Rebecca." Comment?

Beaumont police say they've arrested three people in connection with a recent home burglary- thanks to a vigilant neighbor who spotted some suspicious activity. According to Beaumont police, the arrests came on Wednesday, after someone called the agency alerting them of two subjects they spotted jumping into a neighbor's back yard; right after they had come to the caller's house and knocked on the front door. An increased number of robberies, assaults and other offenses pushed the crime rate up nearly 7 percent for most of last year in cities and unincorporated communities served by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, according to figures released this week. Sheriff's officials said that the overall Part I crime rate climbed 6.9 percent based on criminal activity between early January and the end of November. 1 comment
