File photo NEW BRUNSWICK - Sixteen people have been arrested for taking part in a scheme to pass bad payroll checks in four counties and collect more than $100,000 from local banks and check-cashing businesses, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey announced Monday. Carey said the investigation began Aug. 11, 2015, in Highland Park, when five people arrived at a bank and tried to cash phony payroll checks. Comment?

Attorney Mario Gallucci told a judge that an expert he hired "found some medical evidence that could be interpreted to mean" suspended Linden police Officer Pedro Abad was given the date-rape drug known as GHB before the March crash on Staten Island. He asked Judge Stephen Rooney if he could get Abad's blood sample to be tested. Comment?

Richard Gordon, one of three men charged in connection with the 2011 armed robbery of Quick Chek in Byram, admitted his role in the robbery on Wednesday. Gordon, 31, of Roselle, pleaded guilty in state Superior Court in Newton before Judge Thomas J. Critchley to first-degree armed robbery and second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery. Comment?

At approximately 2:40 a.m., Patrolmen Angelo Marino and Sam Sukol conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2006 Ford for an equipment violation. The driver of the vehicle, Leonard Paul, age 23 from Rahway, was found to have numerous outstanding warrants from multiple agencies total bail in the amount of $2,500. Comment?
