It was approximately 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday when police were notified of the first shooting, which occurred on the 200 block of Third Street in the city's Elizabethport section. Arriving officers encountered the victim, 39-year-old Alonzo L. Gordon of Elizabeth, who had been sitting on the front steps of a building when an unidentified suspect approached and fired a handgun at him at close range. Comment?

A Georgia woman indicted in 2012 for her part in a scheme to steal $1.5 million in unemployment benefits from the State of New Jersey was sentenced Friday to five years in state prison. Monique Valentine, 35, formerly of Roselle, was sentenced September 26, 2014 by Superior Court Judge Darlene J. Pereksta in Mercer County after pleading guilty on March 13, 2013 to second degree-conspiracy and second-degree theft by deception. Comment?
