Police in Prescott Valley are seeking information from the public in an ongoing investigation into a drive-by shooting at the intersection of Robert Road and Loos Drive around 11:10 p.m. Sunday evening, July 26. Police said they've been unable to locate the suspect vehicle, describes as a dark-colored late '80s to early '90s SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee, and a nonfunctioning driver side headlight. The Police Department indicated in a news release that the investigation started when a 24-year-old Prescott Valley man who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet pickup returned from a fast food restaurant on state Highway 69 with his 14-year-old brother and a 13-year-old friend. A 70-year-old member of the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office's "Volunteers in Protection" group was shot three times Thursday night, July 9, after being lured to a spot where he was ambushed by what Sheriff Scott Mascher called "anti-police, anti-government, radical extremists." Jason Niedermeyer, 24, surrendered Thursday night and will be charged with attempted homicide in the attack, YCSO spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said, after more than 20 rounds were fired at the VIP from a high-powered rifle, striking him three times. A driver who Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies said was intoxicated led them on a chase on Highway 169, through residential areas, and then onto Highway 69, at one point driving on the wrong side of the highway, before he was apprehended, on Wednesday, July 1, a YCSO spokesman said. Deputies began to search for Carlos Nieto, 34, of Page, after dispatchers received calls around 8:45 p.m. about a man filling his Range Rover at the Chevron station off Highway 69 in Humboldt, YCSO spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said. Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies arrested a suspected impaired driver Wednesday night after a pursuit near Prescott Valley that at one point crossed into oncoming traffic. Deputies were first alerted to 34-year-old Carlos Nieto around 8:45 p.m. by citizens who called about an apparently intoxicated man refueling a Range Rover and spilling a large amount of gasoline on himself and around the car.
