A Powder Springs woman pled guilty on Monday to racketeering, burglary, and other charges related to a real estate scheme. As jury selection was about to begin for her trial, Mona Lisa Smiley, 60, entered a guilty plea to 18 counts, including two counts of racketeering, five counts of burglary, five counts of theft by taking, four counts of theft by deception, and one count each of forgery and filing false documents. Brandon Christopher Scholz, 30, is charged with sexual assault of a student and criminal attempt to commit a misdemeanor, Smith said. Scholz, who had left the county after being relieved of his duties by the Meriwether school board, was detained by the Cobb County Police Department at the intersection of Villa Rica Road and Mackland Road before Meriwether deputies took custody of him in Cobb County on Jan. 9, authorities said.
