BRIDGETON - Activists who have been protesting in the weeks since Jerame Reid was killed by police during a traffic stop in Bridgeton are planning to hold a press conference today calling for the investigation to be turned over to the New Jersey Attorney General's Office. Walter Hudson, a Penns Grove resident and chairman of Salem County based civil rights organization National Awareness Alliance, said the press conference is in response to dashcam video release Tuesday that showed the fatal shooting of Reid, 36. Hudson, a member of the Penns Grove-Carneys Point school board in Salem County, was indicted in October on charges he assaulted a Penns Grove police officer during a fight at the district's middle school. Calling Dickie Howell "the Delaware version of Paul Morina," former Penns Grove wrestling coach John Emel said he was surprised and disappointed by the Caesar Rodney coach's arrest Wednesday on charges of child sex abuse and rape. Howell spent two years as a wrestler at Penns Grove, winning a region title in 1982, and was an assistant wrestling coach and teacher at Highland before becoming Caesar Rodney's coach in 1991. BRIDGETON - Rallying cries like "Hands up, don't shoot," "No justice, no peace," spoken by protesters in Ferguson, Mo., and New York, were part of the peaceful march in Bridgeton last Wednesday in response to the fatal shooting of 36-year-old Millville resident Jerame Reid by city police on Dec. 30. Now "Hands Up, don't shoot'' is the name of a rally being called for Tuesday, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., in front of the combined city municipal court-police station at 330 Fayette St., to demand answers to questions about the shooting of Reid, according to Walter Hudson, of the National Awareness Alliance, based in Penns Grove. BRIDGETON - In just a couple of hours, protestors are expected to gather at South Avenue and Henry Street for a vigil and protest march in light of the fatal shooting of a 36-year-old Millville man by Bridgeton police officers last week . A few organizers who were passing out flyers about the march Wednesday afternoon said they want answers to the incident involving Bridgeton police officers, Braheme Days and Roger Worley, who shot and killed Jerame Reid after a traffic stop at the intersection of Henry Street and South Avenue on Dec. 30. PENNS GROVE - Local school board member Walter Hudson filed a lawsuit against the borough Wednesday alleging that the borough failed to provide him with records he requested through the New Jersey Open Public Records Act, according to court documents. Penns Grove Council member and school board member arrested at basketball game brawl: In another caught-on-video altercation, Walter Hudson, a Penns Grove-Carneys Point school board member is seen fighting with a police officer at a middle school basketball game. Police had responded to the game following reports of underage drinking going on at the school. Comment?
