A reputed mob bookmaker faced five years or more in prison Thursday after admitting he jolted a deadbeat gambler with a stun gun and tried to burn down a restaurant in a $190,000 insurance fraud. Organized crime investigators have been watching John A. Barile, 52, of East Hartford, since the early 1990s when he was busted for illegal gambling with a who's who of the Genovese crime family's western New England branch. Comment?

A 21-year-old Middletown man, already facing narcotics charges related to fight , was arrested by police for selling "smokable anxiety and depression relief" through an ad on Craigslist. Undercover police officers allegedly bought drugs from Daniel Guerino Demelis based on the ad on four different occasions, reports NBC Connecticut News. Comment?

A 45-year-old Middletown man has been charged in connection with the Monday morning robbery of the Liberty Bank on Main Stree t, but not before he pleaded with police to shoot him while he held a knife to his own throat. Police had surveillance pictures of him from the bank, and an exploding canister of red dye, which was mixed in with the cash he took, also helped to track him down, according to Middletown police. A man with autism who stomped another man to death inside an East Hartford Walgreens in August, and who was found not guilty by reason of mental defect after a trial in November, was committed Tuesday to the custody of the state Psychiatric Security Review Board for 20 years. Anthony Henry, 24, of Governor Street in East Hartford, was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter in the death of Robert Boulay, 58, Hartford Superior Court Judge Julia D. Dewey found during the November trial. Comment?

On Sunday, Jan. 10, Middletown police responded to a call about a fight at the Sbona Towers apartment complex on Broad Street. The alleged fight was between 60-year-old Vincett Godet of Broad Street and 61-year-old Stanley Kisiel Jr. of Rocky Hill, according to the Middletown Press. Comment?
