  • Long Beach man charged in West End stabbing

    A Long Beach resident was arrested Sunday after he allegedly stabbed a man during an early morning brawl in the West End. Long Beach police said that the suspect, Shane Cobb, 22, was among a group of men involved in a large altercation near West Beech and Wisconsin streets at 3:59 a.m. Police officers on foot patrol in the area witnessed what was described as a melee on the street and rushed to the scene.

    A Nassau County Police Department SWAT team entered a home on Laurelton Boulevard Tuesday after a false 911 call was made to police claiming that a teenager had shot his mother and brother. The action became very real for a 17-year-old Long Beach resident who was playing the video game Call of Duty on Tuesday, after a bitter online opponent called police and falsely claimed that the teen had fatally shot his mother and brother in his Laurelton Boulevard home.
