  • Woman allegedly ripped wires out of squad car

    A 19-year-old woman is facing a felony damage to property charge after she allegedly ripped out the wiring in a squad car following her arrest Wednesday afternoon. Maria Tzep-Lopez is facing multiple charges, including fleeing an officer on foot, felony fifth-degree controlled substance possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and felony first-degree damage to property public safety motor vehicle, according to Olmsted County Adult Detention Center records.

  • Court of appeals rules no new trial in burglary case

    A 38-year-old man convicted for burglary last year in Cass County had his request for a new trial denied by the Minnesota Court of Appeals. Matthew Raymond Smoot, who was sentenced to 54 months for second-degree burglary and for receiving stolen property, challenged the Cass County District Court's decision on his conviction, arguing he is entitled a new trial based on the district court's "erroneous accomplice-liability jury instruction."
