    An ordinance to rename the Jeanerette Police station after fallen Officer Juandre Gilliam Sr. will be introduced during Monday's Board of Alderman meeting which takes place at 6:30 p.m. at Jeanerette City Hall. Officer Juandre Gilliam was killed in a crash on April 8, 2015 during a vehicle pursuit.

  • Generals Even Series With 12-6 Win

    The Victoria Generals used a five run 5th to put an exclamtion point on a 12-6 game two win the the Texas Collegiate League Championship. The win ties the best of three series 1-1.

  • Body of missing fisherman recovered from Atchafalaya...

    The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office reported late Saturday evening a fisherman, identified as Leonard Norbert, was participating in a fishing tournament when he didn't return for check-in. According to a lieutenant with the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, an aluminum boat was found adrift after a fisherman left on their boat around 10 a.m. Agents, along with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Marine Division, began searching for the missing fisherman at 6:40 p.m. The body of the fisherman was found at 9:53 p.m. David Wade Clark is wanted for first-degree murder and aggravated burglary in the death of 33-year-old Devin Marc Sanders.

  • Suspect sought in Jeff Davis Parish homicide

    Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's deputies are searching for a man in connection with a homicide in Topsy on Friday. David Wade Clark, 28, is wanted for first-degree murder and aggravated burglary in the death of 33-year-old Devin Marc Sanders, according to a spokesperson for the sheriff's office.

    The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced that the state recreational red snapper season will close at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 12. Preliminary estimates from the LA Creel survey show the state's quota of 743,000 pounds of red snapper for the private sector of the recreational fishery is projected to be harvested by August 12, 2018. The secretary of the department has the authority to reopen the recreational season if finalized landings data indicate such harvest would be within the quota allowed under the Federal Exempted Fishing Permit.

  • Louisiana commission touting new highway safety laws

    Louisiana's Highway Safety Commission is touting new laws that toughen DWI provisions and create new penalties to stem dangerous driving during floods. The laws, passed during this year's regular legislative session, took effect Aug. 1. Anyone convicted of driving while intoxicated and subjected to a blood, breath or urine test will face a $125 fine for the testing, a $50 increase.
