Some Hawaii retailers and industry advocacy groups are pushing back against a proposed law that nearly doubles the monetary value of goods that suspected thieves can steal before they are charged with a felony. That proposal, outlined in Senate Bill 569 and approved by the state lawmakers, raises the stolen monetary value threshold to $750 from $300 for a second-degree theft charge. Comment?
