    Sep 21, 2018 | via Newsday

In the early hours of Jan. 15, 2017, one of two people acted irrationally - either a Holtsville steamfitter accused of driving drunk or the Suffolk Park police officer who pulled him over, shocked him with a Taser while his car was moving and later shot him, attorneys argued Friday in opening statements at the man's trial in Riverhead. For prosecutors, the irrational man was the defendant, Michael Shear, 35, who is on trial before Suffolk County Court Judge Stephen Braslow on charges of second-degree assault, agrravated driving while intoxicated and other offenses for dragging Officer Gregory Sandbichler after getting pulled over in Patchogue.
