    An 81-year-old Halifax man accused of premeditated killing in the January death of his wife entered an Alford plea of guilty to first degree murder in Halifax County Circuit Court on Monday. Ushered into the courtroom in an orange jail jumpsuit and shackled at the ankles, John Frederick "Jack" Brown offered one-word replies of "yes" as Circuit Judge Kimberly S. White posed a series of questions to Brown about his understanding of the plea he was about to enter.

    Police are seeking information on a Tuesday night shooting in South Boston after a 26-year-old male suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, sending him to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Around 7:45 p.m., a call came into the Halifax County E911 Center reporting that shots had been fired in the area of Jeffress Boulevard and Broad Street.

Snead was indicted Thursday by a Halifax County grand jury of first-degree murder of Floyd Crider, a former self-employed drywall hanging contractor who was found dead at his Sweeney Road residence in Halifax, the victim of blunt force trauma injuries to the head.

  • Sentences meted out in Halifax County Circuit Court

    A South Boston man was sentenced this week to two years in prison after he was convicted in September of a drug possession charge. Vantrice Lamont Polk was arrested in April for an offense dating back to July 2017.

    Felony charges of robbery and firearm use have been certified against a Halifax man accused of the August hold-up of American National Bank in Centerville. Jeremy Lamar Anderson, 29, of Halifax had a preliminary hearing Monday in Halifax County General District Court, where a judge found probable cause to send the matter to the grand jury.
