    A 37-year-old North Kohala man who was holed up in his home Monday night and Tuesday following a domestic disturbance and allegedly shot a woman and police officer is scheduled to appear in Kona District Court on Friday on 22 charges, including first degree attempted murder. On Thursday, Macdon D. Thromman of Kapaau was charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder, one count of attempted second-degree murder, nine counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, one count of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, two firearms offenses and one count each of felony abuse of a family member, kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a minor and reckless endangering.

  • Man in custody after allegedly shooting woman, officer

    A man who shot a Hawaii Police Department officer and a woman was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon in Halaula. At about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, a police spokeswoman said the suspect, a 37-year-old man who had barricaded himself into the home and stayed there for more than 20 hours, was in custody, with no additional injuries reported beyond the two previously reported gunshot victims.
