A Michigan man repeatedly called on officers to kill him on a state highway in Peterborough last month as he refused their commands and, instead, walked toward them with what appeared to be a handgun, investigators say. In response, Greenfield police Chief Brian Giammarino told investigators that he felt he had run out of options, so he fired at Lane Lesko, who dropped to the pavement about 10 yards away. Comment?

The fatal shooting of a 19-year-old Michigan man by the Greenfield police chief last month was a justified use of deadly force, according a report from the state attorney general's office. Chief Brian Giammarino shot Lane B. Lesko on June 21 after police say the teen committed an armed robbery, stole four vehicles, led police on a chase on Route 136 in Peterborough and threatened them with what turned out to be a loaded BB gun. Comment?
